I like! for the most part you will only be repairing rank 20+ since you can get to rank 20 in like 2 hours.

Save the Earth. It's the only planet with video games.
My quick 2 cents..
I'm totally torn on the new repair system changes.
I like how I only have to carry a set of 5 mats with me at all times, making my complaint about inventory space less valid. However, even with this system, INVENTORY SPACE IS STILL A PROBLEM. I'm having inventory space problems and I don't even carry many repair items with me.
I like a new item being added. Hey, new is new.
But I liked the original repair system. It was realistic. Ease of getting the repair item was appropriate in most cases (except for Jade Horas LOL), and it was a way for impatient people like myself to contribute to crafters by offering way too much for repairs because I didn't want to wait around for the repair.
And finally, they better add recipes for old repair items like cloth fent and leather spetches, or I'll seriously be super pissed. I have several stacks of these types of items... If all that work and mats ends up being nothing but vendor trash I'll blow a fuse.

You have nothing to worry about - those items are still used in normal recipes. In fact, Buffalo Leather Spetch is used in 59 different recipes. The only one I can think of off the top of my head that ISN'T used in a recipe is the Chamois Spetch.

you must not have looked too hard.

that's 8 stacks of materials that are completely wasted besides the making of vintage hose. looks like maybe they do have something to worry about with all of their mats. i didn't even look up all of the items either just the ones i didn't think had any recipes.

I think Clothcraft may be the exception to this. Leatherworker only has 1 spetch (raptor) that isn't used in something else and the other classes from what I've found use most if not all of the repair mats for other synths (for instance Carpenter's branches are used in other recipes). If you can find other repair mats that are solely used for repair please post them too! I think the list will be pretty short though.you must not have looked too hard.

And that's the same reason that people hold off on repairing something like a Mythril Choker or a wand that requires an electrum nugget. Those are pretty rare/expensive materials to make and are better used for skillups or gear synths than repairs.Kind of hope that grade 4&5 dark mater is a little bit spendy to buy from the npc. that opens up a nice middle market for gatherers and people looking to offload extras gained from questing.
As for the change its self, all i can say is it's about darn time. Back when they implemented the repair and durability systems in beta 1 i knew that having so many specilized repair mats would end up causing the situations we see in game today. People clogging up the inventory with the mats, Weapons/Gear with hard to come by mats would be devalued by the community due to the shear costs involved in keeping them in good working order. The vision started to fulfill its self with the latest addition of nm gear. Steel and mythril nuggets to repair weapons and it was only going to get worse people. What would have happened had the system stayed the same and darksteel and higher tiers of materials became common? I'm personal glad that i will never have to go out and hunt down say Damascus nuggets to get my weapon fixed.
As a part time crafter and full time vagabond of eorzea I welcome only having to carry one or two items to fix my stuff and the stuff of others.

Much prefer the proposed new system to what we currently have...

An Aware, Informed, and Critical community is vital for the success of a game.~ John "Totalbiscuit" Bain
Personally i still preferred the old repair system. I think it makes the game more realistic for example something make from buffalo leather generally require buff leather spletch to repair or likewise you will expect something made from canvas to require canvas fent for repairing. Instead now we have an universal material called the"Dark Matter" which work something like a superglue that can repair all your items... I think it killed half the fun for me...
The first thing I thought when I saw the page was that they will be an alternative repair material , until I read it.
Why can't they do that? Have the original repair mat OR dark matter
.... how is that smart in any way?
Would you carry the more realistic items for sake of lore and immersion which take half your inv space?
or
Will you carry the more compact and streamlined version saving inventory space, making the process simpler, not a waste of gameplay time ?
No one will ever know what type of item you are carrying because you will not be shouting to the world that you are carrying this repair mats and not the dark matter because you enjoy lore...
The only ones I see slightly affected are the role players but Dark matter in itself has its own lore, we just need to wait for the in game text...
