Question about dragoon upgrades, from a casual Dragoon.

I have not downed T5, or Extreme Leviathan. Nor gotten my Animus weapon

I have already gotten 4 things from soldiery though, the ring, neck, gloves, and boots.

These 4 items were the only ones with Determination on them. Since I can get another item this week; I really don't know which one to get next. I was going for the helm, or an accessory.

None of the next armor pieces I can get has determination on it, or Crit tbh. So is it actually going to be a downgrade in DPS cause I don't see me losing 21 crit, and 11 Determination being better than 3 strength. Or I have it completely wrong...

    Here is my character http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...acter/3075410/

I'll take all the tips I can get, just be kind please

You might lose some DPS, but it will be a literally marginal amount, almost completely offset by the increased strength. A new body piece will give you additional defense and vitality, which is also useful and worth considering.

But, here's the big point: being casual is fine and all, but that very thing makes this topic strange. If you aren't really pining to do the new Extremes or the Second Coil, then there's no need for you to gear optimally. If you are actually going for them, then strict Crit/Det stacking will completely screw you over because you won't have enough Accuracy to tackle newer content.

If you're looking to tackle the Second Coil/Others:

Helm: Ignore Soldiery helm, High Allagan is better.
Chest: Get Soldiery Body. The Accuracy is essential.
Gloves: Excellent secondaries, but I think the Accuracy on the High Allagan is more desirable.
    Waist: High Allagan, no question.
    Legs: Soldiery.
    Feet: Soldiery.
    Neck: Soldiery.
    Earrings: Soldiery.
    Wrist: High Allagan.
Rings: Both, since there are only two choices anyway.

    First purchase? Probably the Body.

Keep in mind that the set listed above is a matter of opinion and is based on my idea of what might be Best in Slot while focusing on Crit and Determination and ensuring that Accuracy is "capped" without food.

If you are not looking to tackle the new content:

The Earrings are probably your best way to actually get an upgrade in DPS right now.

Just to correct this...BiS for DRG using just Sol+1 and Coil2 gear is this:

    Weapon - High Allagan
    Head - High Allagan
    Body - Sol+1
    Hands - Sol+1
    Waist - High Allagan
    Legs - Sol+1
    Feet - Sol+1
    Neck - High Allagan
    Ears - High Allagan
    Wrists - High Allagan
    Ring 1 - High Allagan
    Ring 2 - Sol+1

Also note: this is for the 495 (really 496) accuracy level, since that's the Turn 8/9 cap. Obviously changes depending on accuracy.

And if you're not doing Coil 2, just get whatever you feel like. The weights of Crit (0.204) and Skill Speed (0.178) are also closer to DET (0.325) now, so if there's a lot of Crit its likely better for DPS.

EDIT: To compare, this is the 0-acc list for just Coil2 and Sol+1

    Weapon - High Allagan
    Head - Sol+1
    Body - High Allagan
    Hands - Sol+1
    Waist - High Allagan
    Legs - Sol+1
    Feet High Allagan
    Neck - Sol+1
    Ears - Sol+1
    Wrists - High Allagan
    Ring 1 - High Allagan
    Ring 2 - Sol+1

Hello, I wanted to point out 1 thing.

You DO NOT want to upgrade the chest first. Upgrading the Wyrm's mail(mythology) to the Weathered Astrum mail (soldierly) is a very very bad idea.

It might be hard to believe at first, but it's actually a downgrade.

Weathered Astrum mail will give you +5 strength over wyrm's mail. However, Wyrm's mail has 24 determination which converts to roughly almost +8 str.
and you already have way too much accuracy at this time.

So by getting the soldierly chest, you are losing 3str and 24 crit for 38 accuracy that you do not need and 26 speed that you do not want.

I would recommend getting ring, boots and legs first.

Gloves are nice too but high allagan gloves drop in turn 6 and it drops quite often (every other week in my group).

After that I would save the tomes for weathered weapon.

Agree with that at 100%.Chest is i think the worst first buy.If a DRG have accuracy issues with all the item from first coil he's just building wrong.24 DET is just too much.I'm personaly on T8 and i still didn't upgrade my chest and anw, more SS will just fuck my PT already low enough on this fight

Honestly, I did not test it myself. But some people did the work.

Check out the rotation reborn thread http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...otation-Reborn
at the end of the guide part, there's a bis gearing list with many different options for different accuracy point that you desire.

and also if you want more extensive statistical data and formulas from it. check out http://valk.dancing-mad.com/methodology/

These are much more credible source to base your gearing than people's opinions without reasoning I would say. But don't get me wrong, I did not test these myself to be true because I am too lazy for that.

Oh also for OP. I would recommend farming levi ex for quick weapon upgrade. It's a very easy fight and the weapon upgrade will be your biggest upgrade you can do at this time. and it does not cost tomes!

Checked the BiS lists and Determintation seems to be the lowest secondary stat in most BiS blueprints.

According to the Tooltip (which the past has shown can not always be trusted ), Det only affects autohits.

    I am confused now

Well the reason for the low determination is that there isnt much available to us in this patch. Even if you ignore everythingelse and go for maximum determination, you still cant reach +150 determination with 110gears at this time.

Determination also affects the skill damage. If it only enhanced auto attack damage, it couldve been worse than skill speed.
