I agree, everyone is free to make a group as they wish. I don't understand why people feel the need to be so judgmental of people who wish to play efficiently. No one walks into a fight for the first time and is 100% pro at it. There is a lot of time investment already paid by players who downed content. Personally, I don't want to "learn" the fight again with a new group because I already put my time in learning the fight. A few mistakes are understandable; however, wiping for two hours to get one kill is not what I would consider efficient when I can just do the fight with my static and one shot it.

I personally like the idea of mercenaries. I don't like that incompetent people would make it through and slow the rest of us down though. So I instead offer to help people for free, but I don't have a party to do that. The only person I get parties to carry through is my Gf and we only run with FCs and link shells and other real friends and the only reason why I do that is because her laptop can't handle the game so she moves a lot slower than anybody else, but at least she tries.

I used to be part of an fc that sold runs. Most of the buyers were pretty competent at the fights, just people that were tired of endless fail pugs. Not everyone has a good FC or static. I could see their frustration. I was never so arrogant as to look down on them because they paid for a good group. Many of the buyers would even end up joining the FC and downing content with us later. That just works out well for everyone. Don't make the selling of runs or paying for someones time out to be some evil deed that is ruining the game. I'd rather someone who is struggling with content that wants to farm for a clear pay someone then just give up.

Just as many people get carried through content they are bad at because their FC helps them through it. The only difference is they got it for free.

Seems so. Admittedly hard to detect in text.

Just gonna say that Mercenaries are no problem with me. But if it were me, I'd offer services for free.

Then again, I'm gonna have to get REALLY good with end game content.

I have no problem with mercs selling runs, though I have no plans to partake. I also don't believe that only gilbuyers buy runs - folks have listed plenty of good reasons why an honest player would pay mercs for clears.

That said, it seems obvious to me that paying mercs for clears is likely to be a VERY common reason for purchasing gil. There's not much in this game that is expensive, and SOMEONE is buying gil (otherwise the gilsellers wouldn't be here). Merc services are probably the most pricy thing in the game outside of buying a Free Company house. I won't sully the argument with made-up statistics, but it wouldn't surprise me at all to learn that the great majority of folks who buy gil buy it to afford merc clears.

While I don't like it myself, they're actually using PF for a party (like people using it to recruit for coil statics). I do wish they'd make it against the rules to use it for non party stuff, like selling items though

Either you have an insane idea of what a hardcore elitist really is, or I've whooshed pretty hard.

ETA: And to add, if I cared enough to have all the new shinies, I'd probably buy a run or two. Don't see the harm in it. Some people do fights because they love the challenge and sense of accomplishment, others just want new toys.

Not everyone has a FC that can clear content. Get a better FC you say? But I like mine, I've been with them since launch. I value the people I play with more than being able to down every fight in game. But that's my opinion, and others are welcome to their own.

    Hey Zlatan!

But on topic, yeah 3 mil is the going price for T5 right now. On the other hand, I made a new static with competent players last Friday, of whom a lot had never beaten turn 5. It took us 4 days as a newly formed static to beat twintania. If people want to buy content, it makes no difference to me. It's just the alternative to people either not being good, not making friends, or not dealing with pugs. One of our static is in BiS, and told us a bunch of stories about how they sold primals to people. He said the same thing that's being echoed in this thread, a lot of people who bought didn't die at all in the run. They would rather pay to have a good group.

He never once asked anyone in our group to pay him for his help with Twin. He grouped with us one night because our OT's computer died, recognized that we were a competent group, and now is part of our static. Fun times!
