    Future of REtainers

    Now that we can make them level up and put on gear do you think we will ever get have them fight beside us as a companion at this rate? (i.e. SWTOR companions)

    Be pretty cool imo.

    1.0's companions were actual NPCs, so there is hope but considering that they made Chocobo's the new companions its unlikely.

    I hope so, the Chocobo is so unsatisfying and lame. I would prefer retainers considering you can actually customize and gear them...

    I think if they really intended this the Retainers wouldn't be so easy to level compared to the Chocobo.

    In FFXI, you had NPC companions as well. I'm not sure how far they went with them though, I started opening PS2 day, March 2004 until Halloween 2006.
