What is the point of Culinarian?

What is the point of the Culinarian class? Other than being able to make food which it seems you can buy from NPCs. Do you get bound/untradable items that are usable for all classes (for glamouring?). Right now it just seems like a time sync with no visible reward but I might be missing the reason why. Searching for it doesn't help either.

Culinarian is there to make food that is better than vendor food. All serious progression raiders use food.

Culinarian is one of the most profitable classes, only simply because semi-serious raiders use food. Food is always in demand. Unlike gear.

Unless you're on a server where nobody raids, then Culinarian would be useless. But since this game pretty much revolves around raiding, so...

Culinarian doesnt serve a *huge*of purpose- at least on my server. Coming from a 2 star crafter, I make little profit at first glance. Best meal on MB on my server is Boullibaisse (sp) at around 3,800 HQ. Most other crafts can make way more profit than CUL can.

There are 2 keys things to note about Culinarian: Depending on the recipe, the materials can be rather cheap and very easy to obtain. Especially if you have Botanist leveled. Because of this, Culinarian is nice to have to get your DoH hat in Mor Dhona (10 spicy tomato sauce or w/e) as opposed to Goldsmith's Rose Gold Ingot. Which requires Rose Gold nuggets and 9 Peacock Ores (yikes!).

Besides that, I wouldnt break sweats trying to triple overmeld it or anything. And though the materials are easily accessible, just about every meal calls for 5-6 different items. Will eat your inventory space.

Even the 3 star recipes are over looked. Best 3 star recipe atm is Popoto Pancakes. Selling ~6k. An ingredient, Dalamud Potato, sells for 15k NQ on the Market Board. Feel my frustration!

But again, this is based on Cactuar Economy and pricing at this very moment.

You sell HQ items at 3,800,000 and don't make a profit?

The point of CUL is to make money and lots of it, it's probably the highest profit craft. Sure the best items you can make might only make 2k profit or so but you can sell them in stacks of 5/10 and they sell really fast. Cooking isn't about making tha one item that makes you rich, it's about churning out volume to make money. It will also save you a ton of gil when you start using food yourself.

In addition to what others have said about selling in quantity, try selling small amounts of raid food (buttons in a blanket etc) on Tuesdays after the weekly reset. The great thing about cullinarian too is that foods will always sell since it's a consumable and will always be in demand (raid food, CP food, not some random lv 25 +2 stat food or whatever).
