    Bard/Summoners: Seeking some info

Heya guys, so I wanted to come back to FF14 after being gone since about a month or two after release. I am looking at either playing a bard or summoner this time around. I can see myself enjoying them in PvE, and so I will let the deciding factor between the two of them be PvP.

Does anyone have a basic pro/cons to each? Which is easier to play in pvp? I am a casual player so I dont want to try to be playing something very complex. I dont want to do black mage as my buddy is playing one that I will be playing with, and I wouldnt enjoy being the same class its a little pet peeve of mine.

I am torn between them for a few reasons. I love the DoT aspect of the SMN but Ive never enjoyed micromanaging a pet in games. The bard seems like it would be good in PvP as you can run and hit for good kiting.

Anyway, if anyone wants to comment and would want to try to sway me in either direction that would be great. Thanks in advance for any replies!

The bolded stuck out to me. Two ranged can't queue together anymore, unfortunately. You'll have to change your plans.

clearly you having been playing pvp, you can not queue two types of melee or range dps for pvp per 2.15 patch

    Battle System

As an adjustment to overall game balance in both PvE and PvP, the "decrease HP recovery via curing magic" additional effect of Storm's Eye has been reduced in potency from 50% to 20%.
As an adjustment to overall game balance in both PvE and PvP, the "decrease HP recovery via curing magic" additional effect Miasma and Miasma II has been reduced from 50% to 20%.
The following balance adjustments apply only to the Wolves' Den:
The PvP action Weapon Throw will trigger additional effects regardless of positioning.
Arcanist and Summoner can no longer use the spell Resurrection.
The status effect Disease no longer inflicts the heavy effect.
In order to prevent unbalanced party compositions when using the duty finder, the following changes to party requirements have been made only for the Wolves' Den.

    Before After
    Tank:1
    Healer:1
    DPS:2 → Tank:1
    Healer:1
    Melee DPS:1*
    Ranged DPS:1*

    * Melee DPS: Pugilist / Lancer / Monk / Dragoon
    * Ranged DPS: Archer / Thaumaturge / Arcanist / Bard / Black Mage / Summoner

It has been determined that pre-formed parties of three often have an unfair advantage in the Wolves’ Den. However, the addition of a solo-matching category would not only increase queue times, but hinder smaller parties that wish to participate together. Therefore, the following adjustments have been made to rewards based on party composition:
Players who register for the Wolves' Den solo or in a party of two will receive increased PvP Exp and Wolf Marks regardless of the match's outcome.
Players who register for the Wolves' Den in a light party (four players) will receive increased PvP Exp and Wolf Marks regardless of the match's outcome.

    Not for PvP.

On topic: Go BRD, if you aren't willing to micromanage pets.

Wait what? So if we are both ranged DPS we cant queue up together for PvP? That might be the dumbest thing ive ever heard for a game before.....theres no way thats a real thing.

If it makes you feel any better, there's 8v8v8 PvP being released somewhat soon. I'd imagine you'd be able to queue together in that case... If that's even how it works. So you'd have that to look forward to, if you carry on with your SMN/BRD plans.

Also, just noticed you're on Goblin. If you're ever looking for a half-way decent SCH to queue with, I'd be happy to join ya.

Okay so my options then go to melee dps and tank. I never enjoyed tanking in any form of a game. I enjoy making things go boom.

As far as monk/dragoon goes, what would you recommend? Maybe ill give Dragoon a try. Ive always enjoyed hitting things with big two handed weaps. I guess a spear could work?

I was going to try to make a new post asking about this but it wont let me make a new one =/.

Anyway, I like to use two hand weaps so I guess I can either try out a warrior or a dragoon. Any thoughts on these two classes for pvp? I fear since warrior is labelled as a tank I wont be able to pump out good damage.
