    FF14 PS4 install/update time?

Didn't know where this would belong, but anyways as the subject states...

How long does it usually take to install and update FF14 onto a PS4?

Also should I get an SSD for it?

I'm asking because I am upgrading my ps3 for a ps4 and Id like to know how long and if the load times are naturally faster. People have told me that an SSD is needed and some say the PS4 is fine without it.

    Thanks for your time

I don't own a PS4 but my FC mates who do told me that any PS4 games you play need to be installed on the PS4. As such, an SSD would be prohibitively expensive to even consider seeing how each game takes up in the range of 50GBs unless you only play 1-2 games at any given time. I don't know how long it takes to install and update though, just commenting on the SSD issue.

It took me several hours to DL and install on my PS4, but in my current house I'm running off of weak wifi so I'm only getting 10MB/sec. If you're wired to your modem or router, it should DL faster.

As for an SSD, I wouldn't. Yes, they do boot faster, but it's really only going to speed up start times etc. Once the game is running, it's very smooth on the standard HD. Also, SSDs have a limited write lifespan, meaning each time you save to it, its life is shortened a bit. So it's really not ideal for a game console that saves regularly.

Agree about the SSD. I haven't encountered a situation where I considered the load time to be long or inconvenient when playing the game from the stock HDD.

As for install time... The most irritating thing is that it is two sessions. One for the client and install, one for the patching.

It took me about 2.5 hours to download/install the game on a standard PS4. Loading screens can lag occasionally, but not to the point that its frustrating or a problem. If you are concerned about speed or having issue with it upgrading your internet if possible might give you a better result. I'm using a wired connection for the PS4.

That's not true anymore for a LONG time ... I have both PS3 as well as PS4 with SSD (120 GB and 480 GB) and prices are very low for decent and fast SSDs. I have 2 friends who bought PS4s exclusivelly to play FF and both put in 120 GB SSD and have no issues whatsoever, even still have space to download a bunch of "free" PSN+ games.

You clearly have no idea how SSDs (and OS-es like Windows or linux) works - each OS saves data to hard drives all the time - consoles actually do that much less often. Also - the speed is not only about starting up the game itself but also about loading up the zones during transitions and instances (like dungeons and trials). On both PS3 as well as PS4 I'm usually first one to load up there. The whole console is also quieter and little bit less hot. So it's definitelly both worh as well as already affordable to use SSD in both consoles.

Unfortunatelly - unlike PS3 - PS4 has no option to perform local backup to USB drive and then to restore it to new internal drive so you'd need to redownload everything after changing drive.

specsheets say ps4 still uses a 5400rpm HD, same as ps3, and as a ps3 player you will regularly find that you are the last person to load into a dungeon and areas like revenants toll/coerthas highlands can take around a full minute to load on bad days, if you are skeptical about SSD maybe consider something like a 1tb 7200rpm Sata lll drive
