That doesn't fix anything. All you're doing is increasing inventory space to accommodate item bloat and item redundancy. It would cause even more strain on the server since each players' item database has just increased by 80.

Functionally, this process achieve the same thing as the dark matter repair process. The subjective opinion that "it makes more sense" is irrelevant to the positive gameplay ramifications of the dark matter process.

Just tacking on more inventory space is the lazy fix. Making the decision to consolidate redundant items and provide players with a more convenient and less frustrating way to deal with necessary gameplay elements (which is what "repair" is) is the non-lazy fix.

There wasn't endless amounts of stuff to repair items, a weaver only needs canvas, velveteen and linen fent to repair 99% of all gear, similarly the other crafting classes require a limited number of items (various spletches for leather, nuggets for blacksmith and squares for armourer). I admit there are a very few items that have something unusual as the repair mat, but there are very few of these.

And this is dumbing down, how can you even question this? We have gone from a repair mat that has some relation to the item being repaired to a generic 'dark matter'. You may agree with the change but it is still dumbed down.

    It all adds up.

Having so many different repair mats made this scenario:

"I need repairs but no one in the area has the right mats to fix my stuff"

much more likely than it should be.

    Becaaauuuse:

Repairing now is a brainless activity that only requires you to have a particular item in your inventory and a prerequisite rank in a specific crafting class.

Repairing in 1.18 will still be a brainless activity that only requires you to have a particular item in your inventory and a prerequisite rank in a specific crafting class.

It took little real skill before the patch, and it will take little real skill after the patch. Therefore, not "dumbing down". The "dumbness" is staying constant.

Meh. Would've preferred if they streamlined it or made it so it was more like "Wood = repair wooden things" instead of "GROWTH FORMULA REPAIRS WOODEN THINGS ! And also wood, feathers, other potions, dust, etc."

I thought that, besides a few high level equips, repairing was fine for the most part...now almost anybody can do it and there's not as many uses for repair materials like spetches >.< Also they're reducing the NPC repair cost.

Then again, battle is being "rebalanced" and you lose durability for using return while dying so...it might be necessary. We also don't know how rare it is as a quest reward or how expensive it is as a vendor item.

Iunno, I'll wait and see how it turns out before making any further comments.

EDIT: Also this might draw people away from Ul'dah. Some of the rarer mats for repairs, people don't have on-hand so they need to go to the Market Wards to buy it, and since Ul'dah has the "best" wards...well...

Whatever. I hope they changed it so you don't have to have an item in your Bazaar to have it repaired :X Make a separate tag for repairs and allow you to have your retainer stand in the Menders Ward and get it repaired for you (can they do that already?)

EDIT2: I CAN FINALLY HAVE MY GOGGLES REPAIRED.

    Hi All,

I'd say it's a good change. Suzaku has a good example (above): Needing to get an obscure repair item just to fix one piece of equipment is frustrating to say the least.

I've seen it happen numerous times where someone's desperately trying to find a Chestnut Branch to get a repair; or needing a Siltstone / Ragstone / Mudstone Whetstone to repair a Tool. Most of the time it was cheaper to throw away your tool and buy a new one, instead of paying the jacked up prices for the repair material (in the case of Clothcraft Needles vs. Repair Item).

I personally didn't mind the Repair Materials (I got used to it, and went out and farmed / made my own repair materials), but it's definitely a pain; especially for less resourceful and new players into this game.

It's a good streamlining. Less inventory bloat and hassle, more time focused on doing the important / fun things in this game, right?

I am in complete favor of the change! Anything that helps me out when fixing peoples stuff, and helps people repair my stuff and get things done quicker. Nothing more boring that standing around town near the crafters begging for help and hoping someone has the right item to help me!

I don't know about it. It simplifies the procedure but it's not so neat to have 1 material for all.

It would be more appropriate to have 1 material for every crafting type, if you ask me. A piece of rock to repair a dress it's a bit odd..

Perhaps, but that would make it 8 repair items total, which isn't that much different from 5 repair items total. Functionally, it's very similar, but having one repair type per craft class might make the immersion crowd happier.

It is a bit odd, but whatever, it's a fantasy video game.

Well, we could assume this Dark Matter will change its shape in every material, yes :P Need some lore about it in the description lol.
