THIS is exactly what concerns me, Ash. I'm afraid i won't be able to repair anymore all my stuff i already can repair (aka everything). I'd love some extra info regarding this change...because right now it does look very problematic. To be fair, I think it would be slighly cooler if they did use generic mats per craft instead of a one for all, but I can live with it. Specially since Dark Matter is yet another classic item that made it's way on Final Fantasy XIV.
In any case, it will be good to get rid of some pesky mats in my inventory.
My only question for now is: Will I still be able to repair my R43 Ice Brand +2 with a R36 goldsmith, or will I have to grind to 41, something I kind of don't want? ;_;
This new system is great some of the rare/ex items was an pain in the ass to repair and i love the fact that i wont have to wait for someone to have the item to repair my stuff, or for me to go fetch it.
I would have felt better about this if they didn't mention that the dark-matter will be replacing all the repair materials. Would have preferred if they had merely layered it on top, allowing dark-matter to be used to repair all goods, but leaving the current repair mat as it is. Now, there will be no incentive to craft those mats, or to harvest those mats, since we're all going ballistic over dark-matter. I'm crossing my fingers that the mats we currently use will still be in place, but dark matter overlaid, but the wording seems to suggest otherwise.
But I can comprehend this change. It'll probably be better in the long run as well. But at the start of it, it causes half out invent to be worthless. -stares in dismay at all my spetches and fents about to go to waste- Oh well. I can survive it. Certainly, my invent will be much lighter. So, I approve of this change. Time to NPC all my mats. Pimelle's going to be poor from everyone selling to her....
You guys are forgetting they said they are revamping the items used in crafting mats so these old items most likely will not be useless.I would have felt better about this if they didn't mention that the dark-matter will be replacing all the repair materials. What I find funniest about the complaining though is that had this been the original system no one would care. If this had been in place since launch no one would consider it stupid or even look twice at it. People would just accept that's how it is. Well for all intents and purposes the game is currently in development, nothing you see now should be thought of as final or staying around.
I think the whole dark matter item is a little strange, but I am all for it if it makes it easier to repair items without filling up multiple inventories of junk material. Go SE go!
This patch is turning out to be the biggest best patch yet, as promised!
So......where was the possitive part?I'm gonna, for the sake of being positive for once about a stupid decision, smile and nod and pretend that this is going to work.
I have faith in Yoshida because Yoshida is not a stupid person and I doubt there's many stupid people on the development team in general, the problem is when you have so many people working on designing something and with all the differences of opinion in the office and all the asinine suggestions on these forums that end up resulting in stupid ideas.
For the sake that I trust that they are going to fix the game I will let this slide but so help them if they end up pulling more stunts like this around such a crucial time of the game being fixed up.
hmmm. I think personally I would have preferred a more streamlined version of what we had. But I don't dislike this really. however, I also have this awesome pair of rose colored glasses that lets me see the potential tie-in this might have with the new materia system we are supposed to get.
Here's hoping anyhow.

True, I forgot they mentioned it but....Hmm...some mats seem to useless when it comes to crafting such as branches and spetches, and the wording on the official lodestone page seems to imply that they'll be utterly useless...
"Replaced" does give it a kind of finale tone that dark matter will take the place of all the mats.Patch 1.18 will see all repair materials replaced with a universal item called dark matter.
Oh well, I hope you're right, Firon, and that the rest of the mats will be useful in some way or another.
I like this a lot.
It is a pain in the *** to carry 15 different types on items on you just to repair your gear..
Good job SE! (And this time not in a sarcastic way lol)
