    [Just a Suggestion] Teleportation Animation

First off, I'll apologize if this has been brought up before. I used the search tool and got nothing, so I decided to make a topic about it.

Also, this is not a thread about whether or not to keep Anima. We will have Return regardless, so this is about the animation of the Teleportation.

This thread is to ask the Devs to please look into the style and reaction time of the teleportation effect. As I'm sure this is a server related problem, I'm sure we would have to wait until then for improvements. However, seeing as I have yet to see a thread concerning this problem, I figured someone should bring it to the devs' attention in case they don't currently have plans.

If you look at the following video:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECCbcgryOFc

For those who did not watch, I'll will explain the video (though you all know the process).

10s - Player chooses which destination and an animation appears around the player
12s - "Do you wish to teleport?" Confirmation appears.
12-16s - The animation of "Teleportation" going off.
16-23s - Standing, waiting for the loading screen to initiate.
    23-33s - Black loading screen
    34s - Arrives at destination

There are a few problems with this:

First: I don't think the starter animation at 10 seconds should be before it asks "Do you wish to Teleport?". It should be done after the confirmation to save time.

Secondly: I don't mind having a casting time implemented. The time spent on the cast is not what bothers me. What is bothering me is the fact that after the animation of "Teleporting" has gone off/finished, I'm standing there for 8 seconds after the animation is complete just on waiting for the black loading screen to start.

A way to fix this: Implement a casting time + cast animation that is showing your character getting ready for Return or Teleporting. Within this time the server prepares your character for the warp/teleportation. Then add it so that there is a final animation, and upon the completion of the animation, that is when your black loading screen appears (though, it would be nice to see a more lively loading screen, but that is for another topic).

Please share ideas and concerns but please remain on topic. Again, this is not a thread about whether or not to keep Anima.

Insulting people in the counter argument isn't going to change their minds. It will make them stick harder to their opinion regardless of whether or not it's right, and think less of your opinion simply because you insulted them. In essence, if you want to try and change someone's mind, come up with a well thought-out response and don't be a dick.

I have to throw out there that having the initial "Fwwwomp" before confirmation is beneficial because if multiple players in a party open their teleport windows at the same time, they have warning to pause what they're up do and decide who's actually doing the port before someone wastes their anima.

Though, I admit, standing there like a moron after the animation goes off drives me nuts. If they need to add some kind of client-side 10 second "casting animation" while my character "taps into the anima stream" before that animation goes off, so be it. Fun fact: You can actually get aggro and beat on during the delay period. Happens to us during leves all the time.

I think the problemi is only that the character should disappear just when the last teleport "circle-light effect" is going to fade out. But probably it's only a server problem.

FFXI's warp didnt have this issue. Is it that hard to simply remove the character model as the animation plays out? Even if we remain on that screen for an extra few second, as long as our character is no longer there, it wouldnt look so stupid.

Aye, I imagine it is a server problem, which is why I don't think the change should be immediate. But I think it's also important to point out the fact that the animation in itself is rather boring. If I'm about to teleport/return to distant lands, I would like it to be just a liiittle bit flashier and nicer looking. Kind of how FFXI's Tele-X and Warps had their own looks to them. Not saying to copy directly from them, but I'm sure the devs can come up with something better looking.

You do make a good point. However, at least in my experience, if they party is planning on teleporting then they usually go to the point of asking who is going to and then someone volunteers.

In the other hand, i don't rememeber if it's part of the story but it would be neat to have a key item to justify the ability to teleport. In this state, we have the innate ability to teleport back.. odd.

That sounds nice - in my parties we usually ask who's going to port, and then stand there silently, like it's a game of awkward moment chicken, until someone agrees to spend some anima. Often, this leads to two players losing the game at once, and then, post-initial-Fwooomp, they pause for Round Two to see which one of them is cancelling the window and which is giving the port.

Let me just make a wild guess:

"We'll work on this once we have dealt with the server issues"

    Something along those lines.

Which for me, right now, is a perfectly good answer. It's not like it's breaking my game, I just want to know if they are planning on doing anything about it in the future, and if not, I wanted to bring it to their attention.

I've seen that happen a couple of times lol I guess since none of us log in enough to run out of anima we aren't as worried about using it too much.
