    This is why I don't expect Dark Knight to come off Gladiator. Marauder or Lancer seems much more likely, probably Marauder. They can just do the same thing as Scholar and Summoner, except while Summoner and Scholar still both use Books, Warrior and Dark Knight can end up using Axes and Scythes/Great Swords. It certainly wouldn't be impossible, but it would be some extra work, Summoner and Scholar both use the same casting animations, Warrior and Dark Knight would probably end up having slightly different ones, though Scythes might be close enough to Axes to ignore that. They could even just leave Dark Knight with Axes, just give them more of a headsman feel.

    Marauder 30/Thaumaturge 15 + Lancer works pretty much perfectly for Dark Knight though. The only issue is people not getting the weapon they want (us Bards play our non-existent tiny violins for you). They could even leave in the "Increase Enmity" from Marauders combo and just work it into the Job, having it trade off Enmity to boost magic damage or something, while also giving it access to Fire/Blizzard from Thaumaturge similar to how Scholar gets Clerics Stance.

    I rather not get into deep into what DK may be like since Yoshi-P has mentioned already Future Jobs will have more serious effects on classes than current Jobs we have now but for some reason everytime Yoshi-P talks about this he uses Gladiator and Dark Knight as examples a lot.

    However, as of now most of the player base's expectancy for DK is based around FF11 version of DK and if Yoshi-P does something else than FFXI version of DK well I can see the rage and hate threads popping.

    Ah who am I kidding either way what type of DK Yoshi-P chosen to release there will be a lot of RAGE and Hate threads.

    It would make sense from a past standard that dark knight would have THM as the unlock class, but I think they would avoid that path for gameplay reasons. THM skills would be utterly useless(Swiftcast/Surecast, may as well not even have a sub at that point) on a physical dps, which is why Bard's subs were changed from THM and CNJ to PUG and LNC. Even if they took more from THM's list of skills there is still nothing they could really make use of since DRK will not be a primary caster.

    Says who? Slap Int on Marauder weapons around Lv30, just like Arcanist weapons started getting Mind. Then Dark Knight has a solid Int pool. Give Dark Knight access to Fire and Blizzard, as well as the Umbral/Astral effects. Give it a stance ability similar to Defiance, which increases magic damaged proportional to enmity level, while decreasing enmity from casting. Done. Dark Knight does the Marauders enmity combo to build up enmity as high as possible (maybe a Paladin can make use of Cover, too). Then starts casting down their enmity while dealing non-pathetic damage with Fire. Maybe don't even give them Blizzard, just Transpose... It's certainly not impossible to make Dark Knight a melee and caster DPS.

    Pull hate with enmity combo > swiftcast + drain > tank regains hate/covers > spam Fire until damage drops > Transpose/Blizzard to regain MP > resume melee combos.

    That said, the developers lacked the imagination to make Mind and Cure useful for Paladin, so I'm not going to hold out much hope for Dark Knight being much better.

    I like the OP's setup for GLA to DRK, just add a scythe off hand DRK exclusive and unable to wear shield to lessen OT potential from stealing a tank spot in 8 man and you're set.

    If they could change GLD abilities to have different effects when classified as a DPS it could work. For example, Rampart could change from 20% defense boost to +20% crit boost, and Rage of Halone could change from increased enmity to some kind of damage over time effect, or slashing resistance down.
    They don't have "that" much tanking abilities. Several weapon skills have an enmity boost, but like I said in the opening post, it would be easy to design a stance that suppress these bonuses. And if you spend hit points when attacking, Rampart and Sentinel would just be surviving abilities more than straight tanking ones.

    No, he didn't say he wanted that, he gave it as an example of what was possible with 2 jobs coming from the same class. It's a statement from nearly 2 years ago. Since then, he also said that he probably would have to wait for a 2-handed sword class to give it the DRK job. However, that statement is not that recent either. So what they'll do with DRK is pretty much unknown at this point.

    Remember that he once said that we would have a increase in level max in patch quite soon after the 2.0 release, and they since decided to have it only in the expansion. So, old declarations are pretty much subject to changes.
