Yeesh... I loved my dark knight in ffxi, but I would not look forward to that 100 kills again with a greatsword's delay.

The Dark Knight honestly defined the first melee glass cannon in video games. I don't see them being a tank any time soon.

I see DRK as more of tank hybrid similar to the WAR. While I do see DRK being a possible dps I think that doesn't qualify in FFXIV. I mean our "Paladin" is really a "Knight" and not the traditional standard that all Paladins are supposed to be. I honestly prefer DRK to be a tank as it will add some more variety to the tank class and will help to alleviate some of the tank shortage issues. Do you really want more dps and longer que times? The DRK class is very popular so why not put it where it can do some good and get more people playing tanks.

It will only get more people playing tanks until they realize "Oh hey, I actually DO have to tank" and then they go back to a damage dealing job again.I see DRK as more of tank hybrid similar to the WAR. This.
I'm all for adding a new tank class for the sake of adding variety, but adding it with the hopes that you'll actually get people to tank that normally wouldn't is not why it should be added.

By that logic lets make teh Ninja a tank! Yay! and lets make the Summoner a DoT DPS class! Yay.... oh wait.I see DRK as more of tank hybrid similar to the WAR. Yoshi said somewhere that he wanted DRK to come from GLD. I'd imagine they would give a DPS based combo finisher to Riot blade, that increases damage dealt by 20% or something, and then make a bunch of HP sacrificing attacks. Subs would be LNC for sure, and then either Archer or PUG or maybe even MRD(with berserk as a cross class skill?). I think it would need a lot of work to make DRK come from GLD though.. they have too many tanking abilities.
If they could change GLD abilities to have different effects when classified as a DPS it could work. For example, Rampart could change from 20% defense boost to +20% crit boost, and Rage of Halone could change from increased enmity to some kind of damage over time effect, or slashing resistance down.

It will defiantly be Thaumaturge as the unlocking class, but as for the 2nd job to get cross-class from, could be lancer or marauder; or both as they could add a 3rd class to draw from cross-class abilities from.Yoshi said somewhere that he wanted DRK to come from GLD. This is why I don't expect Dark Knight to come off Gladiator. Marauder or Lancer seems much more likely, probably Marauder. They can just do the same thing as Scholar and Summoner, except while Summoner and Scholar still both use Books, Warrior and Dark Knight can end up using Axes and Scythes/Great Swords. It certainly wouldn't be impossible, but it would be some extra work, Summoner and Scholar both use the same casting animations, Warrior and Dark Knight would probably end up having slightly different ones, though Scythes might be close enough to Axes to ignore that. They could even just leave Dark Knight with Axes, just give them more of a headsman feel.
Marauder 30/Thaumaturge 15 + Lancer works pretty much perfectly for Dark Knight though. The only issue is people not getting the weapon they want (us Bards play our non-existent tiny violins for you). They could even leave in the "Increase Enmity" from Marauders combo and just work it into the Job, having it trade off Enmity to boost magic damage or something, while also giving it access to Fire/Blizzard from Thaumaturge similar to how Scholar gets Clerics Stance.

I rather not get into deep into what DK may be like since Yoshi-P has mentioned already Future Jobs will have more serious effects on classes than current Jobs we have now but for some reason everytime Yoshi-P talks about this he uses Gladiator and Dark Knight as examples a lot.
However, as of now most of the player base's expectancy for DK is based around FF11 version of DK and if Yoshi-P does something else than FFXI version of DK well I can see the rage and hate threads popping.
Ah who am I kidding either way what type of DK Yoshi-P chosen to release there will be a lot of RAGE and Hate threads.![]()
