And again... Why not just split stats when the pet is out and fight with you and add give it back to the DRG when the pet is not out? That way the DRG would loose non of his power but ppl had the option to fight with the pet If they like.As a minion, sure why not? But as a pet and nerfing/rewriting my job? No. Just no. I had a DRG in XI too and yeah I liked my pet, but I enjoy dragoon in XIV for the challenge it presents in the playstyle.
And for everyone refusing to even try the job without the pet being there? Less competition for drg drops for me wooooooooooo!! No seriously guys, give it a shot and *then* write it off if it ain't your cup of tea. But please not to be changing my primary job without even giving it a fair shake or a taste, hmm? There's some really delicious dark vibes there, being seduced by power, etc etc. Refuse to give spoilers but it's one of the better job stories, I feel. (Although it was better in 1.0.) Wouldn't be the first time a dragoon was being pulled two different directions, see also: Kain Highwind.![]()
A melee DPS having half the stats in melee range.... Along with a melee pet with likewise half the stats.
I'm just imagining some of those 360 degree AoEs making things get real bad real quick (I'm looking at you ADS). Sure, the Dragoon might be able to Leg Sweep (if stunnable) or Elusive Jump. But no way a pet could react as fast as a Dragoon on top of his/her game. With half the stats of a full-power Dragoon my poor little dragon buddy is dead real quick, and I don't wanna see my little dragon buddy dead.
Not to mention, if I'm half-stats too good chance I'm also dead if I react just a half second too slow. Dead like my little dragon buddy. If people wanted a pet-fighter class, wouldn't it be easier to just pick up a grimorie?
All that being said, if Ishgard ever opens up I can see a small flying wyrmkin minion as a reward for some quest in there. And I would proudly strut through those so called 'holy' walls with a dragon on my arm like the heretic I am.
