How can you even say that luck in an rpg is the equivalent of action in a shooter game? Random events are NOT the very core of the rpg genre. The RPG (which literally stands for role playing game) genre is about the development and progression of gameplay elements. I don't even limit it to saying the progression and development of your character because you can develop other things like weapons and armors, pets, "castles" etc.
Furthermore, when people say things like "Mass Effect or Fallout are shooter games with rpg elements", do you serious think that they mean to say that they are referring to luck when they say RPG elements?
The RPG's origins would like to share a dodecahedron/icosahedron with you. Oh, wait, that happens to be RNG, the horror! How can you even say that luck in an rpg is the equivalent of action in a shooter game? Random events are NOT the very core of the rpg genre. The luck thing is already there inside the game, from atma drop chance, gil dropped by monsters in dungeon, chance of getting excellent/good during crafting success, gathering HQ etc. If they really implement a number to show how much luck someone has, it's gonna get judged like ilvl and player skills, you'll probably be seeing messages like "LFM Primal EX fight, high luck or kick" or "this FC recruiting static members of XXX luck for better insta coil turn kill chance" or even "I don't want you to craft my item because your luck is too low, you'll get alot of Poor conditions on my 3star materials".
and I prefer achievements to be just achievement that gives out item reward rather than a luck point, as well as commendation becomes something that allows us to get exclusive items. If people achieve something solely on the reason to get more luck and not accomplishments, they'll become more aggressive in getting it asap and slams whoever becomes a burden to their 0.00001% luck boost.
Just my opinion, I'm not saying the luck idea was bad as it was used in other older mmo but I think the players would prefer something more constant and fair (like everyone gets to roll the 100-sided dice without influence from anything) and not from achievements, stat builds etc that will greatly change the way people play this game.
True, dice rolling was involved, but it wasn't truly central to the game, I can remember many sessions going by without a dice roll, simply because we had that much fun just roleplaying our characters.
Xcom, fallout 3 and world of tanks are all newer games whose gameplay revolve around rng. Try walking up directly behind an enemy with a shotgun in Xcom and you sometimes still have a 5% chance to miss.
Hmmm of course there is a dice roll in EVERY RPG...the computer just does it for you....otherwise I would be hitting for 1380 with every single buffedfull thrust and it wouldn't vary one bit.
