I've been waiting on this Fan Fest announcement since 1.0! The choice of Las Vegas for the event had me initially apprehensive, but after discussing it with a friend (and comparing travel prices between Vegas and California) have come to the conclusion that it may not be so bad. Now, I expected the planners to follow the precedent set by the Japanese events, and call this "FATE in Las Vegas" (as where better to tempt fate than Vegas?), but I suppose the former FFXI players would more easily recognize the "Fan Fest" moniker and what that entails. Ah well!
Things I hope are true about Fan Fest:
* The event space will be decorated and themed on the upcoming Gold Saucer. It's Vegas! Of course the Fan Fest space should replicate a casino and entertainment center ambiance! Real world versions of Gold Saucer attractions would be amazing!
* "Live Quests" which take actual quests from the game and arrange them into real world equivalents. This was done at the XI Fests and required attendees to form a 'party' together to complete them for stamps and/or tokens for prizes. Easily the most fun I had. Since you can solo quests in XIV, perhaps this will take the form of "Live FATEs" which award paper GC Seals to exchange instead! (If they want to be funny, they could award atma tokens. "Easiest atma drops ever!") Just be sure you're in the designated spot when the FATE is scheduled to start!
* Twitter/other social media "Linkpearl" to alert attendees of impending events, should they need the reminder while off site. Don't forget to download and set the 'linkpearl ring' as your alert sound!
* Eorzean cuisine available at a food court. The cookbook fans would surely flip for this, especially if the planners could provide the recipes used. Just so long as they don't provide FF Potion as the only related beverage!
* A live concert by Soken and/or a new band in the vein of The Star Onions or The Black Mages! Featuring Uematsu as well if possible! Raise your fire shards in appreciation! Well, maybe don't do that, what with the automatic sprinkler system and all.
* Almost forgot the cosplay contest! Geez, it's not a video game fan event without cosplay. Here's a riddle for you. Q: How many Hildibrands can you fit into a Las Vegas hotel convention hall? A: Trick question. No matter how many Hildibrands you gather, it can never be enough.
Their plans are likely already set. There's no telling what's on the docket. These are just things I hope will greet us when we arrive. I'm sure there will be the usual talk sessions, content previews, battle challenges, merchandise, and so on. A teaser for the first expansion is certainly expected, as well. What else would all of you like to see?
