    Noob Conjurer question

I tried my first guildhest and everyone lived but I had trouble locking onto an ally who needed healing. I am playing on a PS4 and I press X to target and then am cycling through players/enemies using the d-pad. My controller kept locking on the enemy. Would someone kindly offer advice to a noob healer? (any advice is welcome) TIA!

You can also edit targeting filters under character configuration this helps for targeting non party members quicker

The first suggestion helped immensely and I will try the second. Thanks!

What I did was edit my "weapon seathed" so I can only target friendlies
All I do is l3 to seathe my weapon heal who is needed then unseath to target enemy's (also adjusted unsheathed to target only enemy's)

Took some getting used to but it helps a lot

I think your issue may be that you were changing targets but not confirming it. When you first perform an action on something, it gets the big arrow over it and is your "main" target. If you change targets with the D-pad, it's only temporary and will return to your main target after any action. However, if you push X on your new target before performing an action, that target will become your new main.

For example, if I want to focus on healing a tank I target them, hit X, and do some heals. If a random party member takes some damage, I target them, don't hit X, and after i heal them my target returns to the tank. If my tank is fine and I want to nuke a bit, I target the enemy and hit X to change them to my main target.

In Character Settings, under Target Filtering (or something like that, I'm not at my PS3 to verify the exact name of it), you can set filters that let you choose various ways to determine what the left/right directional buttons will target. You then use L1 + a face button (X, circle, triangle, or square) to select one of your chosen filters.

For instance, I have L1+square set to put in "Enemies" targeting mode, so left/right will cycle between mobs only. Then I have L1+circle put me in "Friends" targeting mode, so left/right will cycle between players only (whether in my party or not). I also have L1+triangle put me in "All" targeting mode. You can also specify which filters should include NPCs, objects, etc.

If you use that feature, I've found it's actually easier to remain in Enemy targeting mode during dungeons even when you're a healer. That's because of the up/down directional buttons that Ddmk mentioned above. With Enemy targeting, up/down cycles between party members for healing and left/right cycles between mobs, so you can toss some damage out whenever nobody needs healing. I use the L1+circle Friends mode only when I'm doing open landscape content and want to heal random other players who are NOT in my party, since the up/down doesn't help for those.

    EDIT:
Oh, that Target Filtering section in your options has two separate types of filtering. One section at the top lets you choose separate filters based on whether your weapon is drawn or not, and another section below it that lets you choose them based on L1 + face buttons as I described. You should keep one version enabled and the other disabled. If they're both enabled they can interfere with each other and produce unexpected results. So if you want to use this filter selecting version, disable the weapon drawn/sheathed version.

I myself use the weapon sheathed method. But it can be troublesome in the larger fates, cycling through all those players. lol

I use F1 - F8 on keyboard to quick select the party members and L1 / R1 to select nob if needed (to sleep etc.) as I use cross bar toggle / mixed mode so I'd be unable to use up / down on controller without closing the bar first.
