i85 is plenty for Garuda/Titan/Ifrit EX.

It will take you a little while to get the hang of the fights so start sooner rather than later.

    Basically:
    - Farm Coil 1/2/4/5 for i90
    - Spend your soldiery on upgrades
    - Save your myth for the books
    - Once you've cleared EX primals farm a Wave Axe, it will suffice until you finish your Animus.

CT might be worthwhile to upgrade some of those i70 items in the short term.

Can't say that I'd recommend spamming Brayflox really, but that's just my opinion. Depends on your tolerance for running the same content repeatedly until your nose bleeds.

I did Ultima HM in full DL gear, so it shouldn't be too hard. I think it's more your setup/party that makes the biggest difference in that instance. And knowing what happens in the "final" phase.

Wave axe sucks (no parry no acc), dual haken is easy to get and has good parry and lots of ACC.

Don't give bad advice.... Dual Haken accuracy is nice but you can easily get enough accuracy with current gear to reach cap for t5 without it. Unless you are short on accuracy the wave axe will always be better than the dual haken. In FFXIV majority of the time ilvl trumps all and secondary stats don't add enough of a bonus to really make much difference unless your min/maxing and even then they don't really drastically alter anything. The Wave Axe is going to give you a much higher damage output, which will allow a large lead in threat against some of the i100 weapon players. This will allow you more uptime on SP and SE.

If your chasing after parry (as the guy below me said which isn't always the best idea) then your better off with the Bravura weapon which has the highest parry of any tanking axe.

TL;DR Unless your far below the accuracy cap, don't use the Dual Haken. Your better off with Bravura Zenith until you can get the Allagan Axe or the Wave Axe

If you don't have an allagan axe already the Wave axe is plenty good until you can get something i100. The Wave Axe is always better than the Hakken, unless you're missing accuracy on the rest of your gear. I'd use the Tidal Wave over the Animus. Maybe even over the weathered conqueror depending on what High Allagan drops you've got.

Parry just isn't that great. To go chasing it or using a lower ilvl weapon in order to have more are not smart ideas. The really important thing is to maximize ilvl and keep the accuracy cap.

Passed Coil part 1 for the first time last night...so I'm going to see how far I can go into coil. I'd like to get at least to average item lvl 90 before attempting EX Garuda again (so far two tries after watching video).
Make sure you cap your tombstones for soldiery every week. Since myth tombs (although a pain to grind) are limitless. I would purchase soldiery gear as you are available (starting first with your body). Get myth upgrades until your i90.

You have more than enough gear to handle Ex primals as long as you know the mechanics. The hardest part of Garuda Ex (if MT) is learning to time your IB so that you have it available for double wheel (if tanking garuda and suparna *don't recommend*). If tanking chirada and garuda the timing is spaced out a bit and easier to handle. If your the OT it's super easy. Just grab whatever mob the MT doesn't and kill it. Then pull the other sister off and kill it. Grab spiny during tornado and let MT take it when your at 2 stacks. There are a few detailed guides online I would encourage you to check out.

If you can dodge, then your only concern with titan is finding 7 other people who aren't brain dead.

Lastly Ifrit imo is probably the easiest of the three original ex primal fights (although leviathan is a close second).

The OP is on T1 and people talking about high allagan.. Lol

Your item level is fine to run extremes and T1-5 (assuming enough accuracy for coil). As a tank it will be the most help to study all the fights and their various mechanics - mainly just to keep heat off you from the many a-hole players that don't show much respect for tanks, but also to build confidence (as in, don't be afraid of tanking it!)

Most i90 Allagan tank gear drops from turns 1-2 which should be easy enough to farm. Turn 4 is a test for off-tanks, approach with caution, the only loot here worth getting is wristlet (the only other tank drop in t4 is gloves). Plan to spend a bit of time wiping on turn 5 until you can get a decent group gellin' together.

Don't underestimate the Extremes.. They are not as incredibly easy (to complete) as Very Serious Players seem to suggest. Just try to have patience and find people who are competent and driven to complete it, maybe form a static to practice with if you can.

Best advice I can offer for right now, good luck!

If only I'd known... I had the gloves drop on my first part 4 of coil run. I have ring and earrings so far from 1 and 2, but round 1 and 2 are so much less cranky and rushed than turn 4 ha ha.

I am thinking that sometime in the next month or so I'll have to try to form a static party. Seems like the best way to attempt some of the end game content.

I am on a slow boat with my casual play I believe. My PLD is currently i91, have not completed EX's and have not beatedn T4 on PLD(have on DRG,and BLM though) and have yet to beat T5(not for lack of trying). It is getting tougher out there for tanks that haven't done the content on farm to get in groups and learning parties sometimes end up with people that get frustrated after a few wipes and quit, forgetting the purpose of the group.

I am currently working on understanding the tank role in T4 and have made it to Profusion as OT in T5. Twisters as BLM, DRG.

My suggestion is take every opportunity you can to get in PT's for these clears. They are becoming few and far...at least on my server at my playtime.

THe advice given here is solid in terms of what the focus should be progression wise. Coil1-5, EX's, SBCoB. Upgrade gears as you go.
    Good luck to you!
