lol That cracks me up every time. XD I sometimes make a small living out of buying stuff from the market and then selling it to NPC. I've made several 100 gil in one go that way.

And that's when I go purchase those items and vender themSure, I leave anything that's 1-5 gil cheaper than vender alone but you can make good money cleaning up on other peoples undercuts

Undercutting will exist as long as SE does not implement TAX on listing items on the MB. Now tax is done only when item is sold. TERA had a tax system when u put item on auction 5% and another tax when item was sold (exist now). A tax on listing items on MB will greatly decrease undercutting as u will loose at lot of gold every time price is adjusted.
I'm on phone now or would make an individual topic for discussion.

"undercutting" (I think the term is actually "Competative Pricing" when not being used to justify greed) will exist as long as players can name their own price.Undercutting will exist as long as SE does not implement TAX on listing items on the MB. You do know that if you head to the city that it was posted in,IE gridania, LL or Uldah that you don't have to pay a tax... right? It shows you the nation it was posted in so you can head there and avoid paying a tax. The "tax" is for importing/exporting to another city from the one it was posted in.Undercutting will exist as long as SE does not implement TAX on listing items on the MB. There's 1 compulsory tax when the item sells and one possible tax when the item sells. You do know that if you head to the city that it was posted in,IE gridania, LL or Uldah that you don't have to pay a tax... right? The possible one is what the buyer pays extra from other cities and is easily avoidable as you say.
The other however is paid on everything you sell and it comes out of the sell price (rather than adding more onto it).
For example, if you sell 2 items for 100 gil each. One item is bought for 100 gil by someone in the same city as your retainer and you get 95 gil for that. The other is bought by someone in a different city for 105 gil and you still only get 95 gil for it.
The buyer is not the only one who pays a tax.
SOMETIMES the selling tax can be lowered by selling in a specific city (can be checked with the NPC you hire your retainer from) but usually it's 5% across all boards.
Edit: You can see the tax listed in the bottom of the interface you enter your sell price into.
The problem is, you can see the exact price everyone is selling for. In ffxi all you could see was the price history and how many was up for sell. Also there was that tax for putting items up. Also stuff only stayed on AH for 3 days till removed. All those things made ffxi's ah perfect imho.
The market boards in this game, I believe are not used as freuquently as the AH in ffxi.
For one ffxi 90% of things could be sold on the AH.
It had consumables that would run out like arrows, bullets, potions, foods
It was much easier to get stuff on AH, then trying to find an npc or mob that droped the item.
FFXIV arr however, npc's are plentiful, plus the game hands out pretty much everything. Just by doing primals, dungeons, quest's, tombs.
That's the thing about these modern mmo's, I find myself vare rarely ever using the market board/ah systems anymore. But in ffxi, I used the AH every single day, it was a huge part of that game.

Which once the forums for XI launched (and even on fan site forums) had as much if not more wailing and gnashing of teeth over "under cutting" as... Well every MMO ever. The problem is, you can see the exact price everyone is selling for. In ffxi all you could see was the price history and how many was up for sell. Also there was that tax for putting items up. Also stuff only stayed on AH for 3 days till removed. All those things made ffxi's ah perfect imho.
It was the same as here, but with an annoying "bid the most recent sale price, sale did not complete +/- bid, sale did not complete +/- bid, sale did not complete... Etc until you either guessed right or it was priced well above its worth.

The seller have always a tax.
Some don't care and just wanna get rid of an item for some price, anything mildly expensive I get from retainer I usually round down by 10% and forget it exists until my sell slots are full. Money is so easy to come by with very little use several thousand Gil really doesn't mean anything
