Some help with the gathering wards?

I'm a level 48 BTN and I've run around to just about every node in Eastern La Noscea and have not once been allowed to activate Menphina's Ward. Even on the nodes that give absolutely no bonuses won't allow me to use it. I'm about to tele off and just try a different type of shard all together to see if I can get them to work elsewhere, but are there some special requirements to using these things that I'm no aware of?

Edit: Wow, never mind, I appear to be suffering from a classic case of "I got water and ice shards mixed up again"

I had a similar issue with never knowing which one belonged to which type of shard. Since very rarely is there more than one type of shard at a given node (outside of clusters), I just marco'ed all the wards onto one button and just hit that - the correct one applies itself and I don't have to think about it.

Yeah - not macroed, but I've got all six on the right hand of row two and hit whichever one is actually lit up. (It's not like I've got anything to cross-class.)
