Honestly, I would not be at all against using all the same good stuff that WORKED in FFXI or other MMO games.
When I read that "Chocobos would be in the game, but serve a different purpose," my first reaction was "Why???" Chocobos have always served the purpose of being ridden on to get places faster, and their use in FFXI was perfect. Why change that in the new game, just because it's a different game?
The job system from FFXI was perfect. Like I said in my last post, FFXI is just outdated, mainly graphics-wise. One way I may enjoy it even better was if they implemented the job system from FF Tactics and made it so that you could unlock advanced jobs after first meeting requirements on other basic jobs, such as unlocking Summoner after raising jobs like Black Mage, White Mage, and some other stuff up to certain levels FIRST (I forget what the exact requirements were lol). Then being able to do a quest after meeting requirements to unlock the job finally would be ideal.
I never really used the Mog House at all, other than storing items, which retainers do in the new game, but I notice that a lot people liked the Mog House for decorating, and other stuff, and I wouldn't be against it coming back. We need more moogles in the game! So far, the only ones I've seen are in a few cutscenes from Gridania. They're so cute...
The armory system is kinda... I don't know. It WORKS, but it's just very limiting if you want to try and emulate a Final Fantasy world. For example, they make it so that you have to equip a different weapon to change jobs, right? Well, what about in a FF world where staves are equipped by white mages, black mages, oracles (just an example), summoners, etc. In FF14, they made it so that ONE weapon type equals ONE job. On the reverse side, they split up swords and axes to two different jobs. Warriors used to be able to equip both. But now, warriors are split up into two separate jobs, which seems kind of odd to me. What's the point? Sure, DD jobs like Marauder are nice to have, but isn't that what PUG and LNC should be? It seems like they're just making up random jobs and it feels less and less like Final Fantasy. (I don't know if Marauder is a DD, I haven't used it yet, I assumed it is)
Adding to that, swords are now limited to Gladiators. Assuming red mages ever made their way back into FF14, what are they gonna equip? Traditionally, they always used a sword (not necessarily only in FFXI but in FF1, FF3, etc) but then sometimes used a staff too, I saw in FFXI. See, it's a problem now, because if they bring back traditional jobs, they'll have to make some system changes because the current armory system would have issues with that kind of situation.
I wouldn't mind doing away with the 'equip-a-weapon-to-change-your-job' system, and just adding a 'change job' option in the menu and just equipping appropriate weapons.
Sorry for the rant, it's all my own personal opinions about the game. I do enjoy the game as it is, but it just feels so separated from what Final Fantasy should be all about. I still say FFXI was the perfect creation for an online FF game, with its world, job system, etc., but it's outdated now. I just feel like FFXIV is becoming distant from the FF roots. Mainly with the job system though. I think the world, characters, etc. are nice. It seems like chocobos and airships will eventually come, so that's nice.
I heard that there's a possibility traditional FF jobs may be implemented as advanced jobs later on, which would be kinda cool, it would bring back that nostalgic feeling. But personally, I think they already messed up from the start by creating the current job lineup, which is now hard to change by this point. It's not bad, but it could've been better, to be "more FF".
That's it, I'm done! I didn't know anyone could vent their feelings about a game so much lol
That said, when is Ishgard gonna come!? I want to see what it looks like! xD
