^ This. Pretty much you're sitting on a dual-core processor with a semi-decent graphics card.

For context, hyper-threading is pretty much un-used outside of 3DS Max/Maya, Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro or other high-demand rendering/processing programmes.

You're not going to be getting 30-60FPS with this set-up.

If you invest in a decent quad-core (intel i2500k(and or equivilant) or higher) would work to your advantage.
Any average video card (with an average 1GB of memory) should be fine, they're running fairly cheap noawadays, you can easily get a solid range of 40-60fps with the aformentioned.

^ Bearing in mind you may need to purchase a motherboard compatible with a new processor, there may be an AMD equivilant of this.

^ Yet again, there may be an AMD equivilant of this.

(There are even cheaper parts than these, however this is a good example for an upgrade if you have a desktop capable of upgrading.)

Nothing wrong with a dual core I get around 25-30fps most of the time on my dual core 3.2 ghz because I have a decent enough video card and a 6mb cpu cache. Of course I don't run the game at max (high) but it gets the job done. I custom built my computer back in 2010 (for 1.0) so it could run on medium graphics heh

Upgade your graphics card as the R7 240 is not beefy enough. Processor wise you are allright, even though FFXIV is CPU biased the 3.8 Ghz should be sufficient AMD or not. As far as graphic card upgrades go what are you willing to spend? Heck almost anything will be an upgrade, but knowing a budget will help pinpoint a decent one.

If you don't wanna spend money, put eveything in the lowest setting catalyst (overclocking this card will be like giving a tutle a turbo) will not help, but honeslty that would be a diservice to your eyes as FFXIV may not be cutting edge, but it sure can look pretty at max setting.

Drop the money and pick up a radeon 7770. Though that processor is.... Well do thorny about that. Lol... You may want to worry about that... Someone correct me if I'm wrong but aren't the FX seriously out of date?... Just a bit.

Really the 240 is a $66 card. Not really for gaming.

Really upgrade to PS4 or a current gen Video card.
I don't know anything about amd/ATI video cards.

But nvidia basicly works like this X90 = best X80 = last gen x90 and so on. If AMD works the same way your 240 is a 5 gen old video card.

On an nvidia 770 I get 60 fps X 2560x1440 in all places but lost city.

I would appreciate it if someone who really knows their stuff could help.
I can see 3 things wrong with your system. Windows 8.1 (but not much you can do there unless you go back to Win7 ;P). Can I say how mych I hate windows 8*? hehehe

AMD is really not a very good processor anymore, unfortunately. It has really gone downhill the last 10-15 years or so. To get good results from your processor, you really should have at least a 6mb cache if you are into gaming. Bottlenecking is pretty frequent with anything under a 6mb cache and improving your graphics card may still get hung up on the processor if it doesn't have a good cache.

ATI has *always* had various issues with games dating all the way back to the 1990's. That is why I stopped using ATI in the first place. But that does seem to be a lower end card.

Well I agree with disliking windows 8 and 8.x It has lower over head and gives a better gaming performance then windows 7 same specs on hardware.

    Commendations.
If I play dps I only give it out to other dps.
If I play tank I only give it out to healers.
If I play healer I only give it out to tank.

Only if they should be getting a commendation.

I honeslty think the best upgrade will be the graphics card. I have windows 8.1 and a quad core AMD processor and I hit close to 60FPS in most areas. The only major difference between myself and the OP is the graphics card which is why I think that is the best upgrade.

Yes your AMD processor is older (Intel is the way to go for raw gaming power), but the real killer is the graphics card IMO. Windows 8.1 while not the best in general should not be considered as a viable upgrade as it's performance to value is minimal.

I wonder though OP what are you willing (If anything) to spend on a upgrade?

OP didn't state what resolution he was playing at either, I mean that should be enough to play at 720p.

I tested The IGP in my 3770k during the beta, which can played ARR just fine at 720@standard setting (use the newest driver), mind you I am using an high end CPU that is also overclocked. This game is not that GPU demanding, it is much more CPU resource intensive.
