    PVP....Wow...

I have PvP'd in a lot of games.

But I have to say that this game has the WORST PvP I have ever seen.

Hands down the worst, I played 5 games and I will NEVER touch wolves den ever again.

First off, there are no diminishing returns. You can be stunned to death, slept for 30 seconds.....

Sprint is just laughable. Basically like someone shoved a rocket up your backside and you take off warping into walls.

I seriously have no other words to describe PvP in this game other than "The worst offense to Player vs Player since Aion".

That isn't a good place to be either.

    wow....just wow.........

I haven't tried it yet, but if it is anything like the pvp in most MMOs, I only find it fun if I don't take it seriously.

Diminishing returns means the more you use something, the less it gives you in relation to the first time you used it. PvP in FFXIV has this. You can be slept for 30 seconds, then the next time you get slept it's only for 15 (or so, I don't know the numbers off hand) and then 5 seconds, and then no seconds.

But being slept can be countered by abilities like purify, which cure you of all detrimental status effects and can be used regardless of whether or not you're slept. Fetter ward is also helpful for countering this if you're a melee DPS, it prevents status debuffs, like a vaccine rather than a cure. Along these lines there are also sleep ward potions.

Sprint can be a tricky one to deal with, but it can be countered by debuffing your opponent with heavy or by hitting them with weapon's throw, which is a PvP ability that removes the opponent's sprint effect. There are also strategies you can employ...like ignoring the guy you can't catch and attack someone who you can :P

PvP is rough and has a high learning curve, but it can be fun if you keep trying and learn the tips and tricks.

PvP in this game is amazingly rich & well-balanced actually.

The PvP-exclusive abilities that are unique to each class are extremely well designed too.

WellFooled is right in that the learning curve is steep... the reward is great however.

It takes some time to learn how to beat the cheese-tactics but it's honestly not difficult (don't let BLM's freely cast sleep, it's a simple solution).

And they're just that, cheese-tactics... experienced players know how to crush them & further experienced players know other methods of play/more advanced tactics that otherwise trump them.

Exactly. Just punch them, or keep them moving. It's that easy. If you're a healer, you can remove sleep. If I'm not mistaken Hawk's Eye ignores their Equanimity, allowing you to interrupt. Plenty of ways to counter this.

I don't understand the complaints about sprint, either. It'd be a great quality of life adjustment for TP users, but casters would be completely dysfunctional. We have cast times, and they're interrupted by any damage. We need a tool to put some distance between us, occasionally. I would never queue as healer again knowing I'm just going to be helplessly zerged down, praying that the other healer dies first. That's not fun.

@OP, you can't just try a couple matches and decide PvP sucks. Knee-jerk posts like yours scare people away from an already small PvP community. Especially when you fill them with hyperbole and misinformation.

The one place in the game where it can be an advantage to go as your class.

PvP in this game does kind of feel like an afterthought. Though I'm sure they will continue to make it better.

I hate the PvP in this, I've done it a few times on a tank healer and DD, but it just feels like a game of tag not a duel.

One major thing I think is an issue is that tanks can't tank, if they changed it so abilities with increase enmity instead cause the opponent's target to switch to the user and provoke to cause the enemy to be locked onto the target for a set duration I think it would really go a long way to fix it.

Tanks would be able to be a nuisance that the other team will want to kill first so they stop screwing with them, which would bring both teams together to see who can tank better who can heal better and who can DD faster. rather than running around in circles playing catch the healer!

I sincerely doubt they'll ever invest a great deal of attention to pvp for this game. For one particular and simple reason.

It's not a PvP focused game, the 3 main city-states are not truly against each other, they're unified for the threat of the Garlean Empire and also the Primal Threat/Ascians.

It's a PvE focused game. The only reason PvP even exists at all is because the developers know that a large amount of people who play MMOs enjoy PvP and they need to try to make as many people happy as possible. But still, it's a low priority type of thing - even if/when they release the Battleground thing, which will be large scale battles, don't expect it to rival that of like GW2 WvWvW, or anything even remotely similar on the market. GW2, etc are games which cater more to the PvP minded player base and are consistently feeding their resources into making it better and interesting. XIV is just simply not that type of game and (hopefully) never will be.
