All PvP Actions will now be given to us starting 2.3.

If you watched the "Duty Commenced" live stream they announced this. The points will be used for traits and stuff like that. Frontlines (PvP) is coming in 2.3. (They said they will be making a Dev post about this.

What do you guys think about this? Personally, I like it, I just hope the traits and stuff are worth the points .

I think it'd maybe be better if PvP action points were specific to each class (kinda like stat allocation points), or maybe if ranking up increased the number of PvP actions you could slot (so perhaps one ability from ranks 1-4, two from ranks 5-8, three from ranks 9-12, and so on), but this is still an improvement over the current system, which seems very poorly designed in a game where you're encouraged to do everything on one character.

I recently started PvPing on my bard instead of my healer and it's quite fun (especially now that I'm not public enemy number one every single match) but the only PvP ability I have is Purify, and being rank 17 I don't get new action points to spend very often.

It's definitely a good thing. The better (I use that word lightly) parts of PvP are when you get access to the PvP specific skills, so it'd be a lot better for everyone to start with them. Not like it'd be faceroll easy with the skills, it still requires you learn when and where to use them.

Wonder why that wasn't in 2.25, would have actually made it an OK update as far as PvP goes.

They covered The new PvP Announcement ( this thread), and just reconfirming that Frontlines will be in 2.3. The rest was more of " This is our first live show" so they basically introduced who they were talked about how they are planning new events that aren't screenshot contests lol. Talks about How well the PS4 is going (ish), they plan on doing giveaways when they do these events.

This is a good first step but they've still got a ways to go before they introduce the Frontlines system.

Removing the restrictions on skills is a good start, it forced an unnecessary need to specialize into a single job type. One of the reasons I stopped pvping was that I had gotten tired of going in as a Blm/Smn but all of my points were already invested and even if I wanted to try joining as anything else it would have meant certain death in most situations.

What they need to focus on next is a total reworking of the morale system and actually reworking pve skills into pvp skills so tanks can actually serve as tanks and not as just a third dps, among other problems.

THIS. I love PvP, but also love playing a tank. In PvP, I'm reduced to a sub-par DPS character that everyone ignores so they can take out the healer, then caster, then dps before finally converging on me. I cannot play my role. There MUST be a way to force players to attack the tank - perhaps make abilities like Flash or Provoke force a retarget and autoattack on the tank for X seconds, with diminishing returns (like stun effects, blind effects, Heavy, etc). Give us an increased damage output during PvP so that we're actually considered a threat that needs to be dealt with. Make it impossible to run through other characters, so the tank can actually get in the way, blocking access and harrying. Do something.

This is sadly a common occurrence in games with 'tank' roles that have abilities designed to hold aggro. PvP comes along and for some reason everyone decides that having abilities like that against other players would be somehow unfair. At that point, why even bother with tanks in PvP?

I've always had this vision in my head of a mass PvP in a game where characters couldn't just walk through one another and thus there could be a line of tanks standing side-by-side protecting the archers, mages, and healers while the melee DPS characters duked it out on the field. Real battle strategies and maneuvers being practiced... because you have to get through that line to do any real damage to the enemy.

But I don't think it will ever happen.

I kind of wonder if they should give every Job a trait which effectively gives them something similar to Bard songs; as long as party members are near, or you're alive, they get a buff. Paladin gets something similar to an AoE Cover, either you split their team up or you may as well focus on the Paladin first. Warrior could provide a damage boost, take him out or their DPS will make short work of you. That sort of thing.

I know where you're coming from (I main a paladin, which is my favorite job, but have been using my dragoon to PvP for the same reasons you mentioned), but I don't think this is the answer. It is extremely frustrating to have control of your character removed, particularly in PvP. But you're right, something has to be reworked with tanks.

I like the idea of enhancing cover so that we could use it more often or with greater effect. So we'll still be tanks, taking damage for an ally, but we wouldn't be making the game frustrating for the non-tanks by taking controlling their character.

Right now the only use Paladins have in PvP is from our few utility abilities, like shield base. Instead of increased damage I would love to see the utility side of things beefed up. Perhaps making us buff and debuff characters, having our defense abilities somehow sharable (like dropping a circle similar to shadow flare that increases the defense of allies in range), or enhancing our stunning abilities, like giving shield lob a stun. So we'll still contribute, but in a different way then DPS and healers.

But anyway, this news is great! I love PvP! But I'm not a huge fan of arena style, which is all we've got. Frontlines coming in 2.3 is great news! I can't wait to see what they've cooked up.
