    Let us talk about Air-ships...

    So let have a different topic on the forums for once.

    So how about those personal and FC Air-ships Yoshi-P said we will eventually obtain?

    As mentioned back when Housing was revealed one of the Function for Housing will be to serve as a area where we can build our own Air-ships.

    What kind of role do you think Personal Air-ships and FC Air-ships will have in FF14ARR.

    I'm going to guess Air-ships will play a important role in Main Scenario allowing players to travel into new continents, Areas, and Dungeons once they are released into the game through Expansions or Major Updates. Also, maybe a few dramatic epic cutscenes showing our character pilot our own Air-ships to progress in Main Scenario like these...

    I only hope that Air-ships can be customized in FF14ARR once it is released.

    Note: I mentioned this in a post I made months ago that Yoshi-P has mentioned in a interview that one of the themes for 1st expansion will be "Flying" hint that it may be in 3.0 when we finally can build and obtain our own Airships and "Flying" will serve a important role in 3.0.

    Maybe if we're lucky, SE will take ANOTHER 0 off our gil and then try to charge us 500,000,000,000GIL to make one

    On a serious note, i would love to build an FC airship and sail over seas with my free company, tackling pirates and krakens, fishing, maybe something like an airship raid, airship battling, oh this sounds exciting

    The promise of custom built airships is among the main draws of the game for me, from as far back as the Eorzea Live launch event. That the ARR team still intends to follow through on that promise is a major reason I'm still playing XIV. Here's what I'd like to see when they finally implement Free Company airships.

    *Make every craft relevant to building, customizing and flying FC airships.
    Similar to how most Disciple of the Hand classes have recipes related to housing and furnishings, it should be simple to figure out which part of an airship each craft might manufacture. Additionally, participating in airship content as a Hand class grants an upkeep and/or repair bonus to the specific airship part which that class crafts.
    Armorer: Frames determine an airship's size and defense.
    Carpenter: Hulls improve an airship's defense and HP.
    Alchemist: Engines determine acceleration and top speed.
    Weaver: Balloons improve acceleration and turning radius.
    Leatherworker: Envelopes improve HP.
    Blacksmith: Outfits the airship with weapons, such as cannons and harpoons.
    Goldsmith: Instrument panels improve weapon accuracy and radar effectiveness.
    Culinarian: Certain foods improve abilities specific to airships, such as piloting skill or repair speed.

    *Allow Free Company crests to be prominently displayed on the airship. By this I mean large emblems visible from a distance, not like the tiny patches we currently have for gear emblems. Standards or flags displaying the FC crest are definitely welcome.

    *Take a page from Guns of Icarus. There's a game that is dedicated to airship combat. If it plays something like that, with several players working in tandem to pilot, operate weapons, and repair airship damage, then I think we'll have some compelling and fun airship content.

    I'd Like to see a Sky Fortress as the "FC Airship". Within it, you can dock the member's ships.

    FC members maintain the Sky Fortress. Maybe give it a durability system like gear that requires multiple people to maintain it. New items that function as Dark Matter. Each item only recovers a certain % of durability, so you'll need lots of these repair mats to fully repair a ship or the fortress.

    Player ships can have NPC crew members they can hire. Maybe have these NPCs paid with Ventures. They can be assigned to a specific system. Manned systems are much more efficient:

    Navigator - Adds PoIs to the minimap (enemies, friends, objectives, etc.)
    Pilot - You
    Weapons Specialist - Improves Weapon attack/reload/accuracy
    Engineer - Repairs HP in battle (sorta like giving your ship Regen)
    Comms - allows you to talk with other ships (maybe like a party made of ships instead of people).

    3 different sizes like housing. Have an airship level. As the airship levels up, more equipment like advanced weaponry or reinforced hulls become equip able. This is so people can't "twink" their ships and gives a market for those low level hulls and weapons.

    Story could be that Eorzea decides to counterattack Garlemald while they are still recovering from the failed invasion. Players use their ships to blow a hole in their front lines and to take the Empire's attention from the guys on the ground. OOOOOOO, I could talk about this for hours!

    What's the point when the airship flight is just a zone transition and people rather teleport anyways and pay the extra 300gil.

    First they need to balance transportation, because it's making me feel like this is a tiny world then sure I'd love an airship.

    sadly i was met with the horrible response of flying mounts in this game the world is just not big enough for them to many zones this is not WOW where invisible walls are really non existent as much as i like the idea i see little to no use for them other than a way to tempt crafters to make them only to be bitten with the fact that there is no real use for them making crafting once a again a waste of time!!

    Didn't they mention something about Estates getting their own Retainers?

    inb4 all an Airship gets you is a special Retainer Venture. Although that could work quite well, send Retainer off on Airship, they discover X location, you then travel to X location for special harvest nodes, enemies, dungeons, etc.

    Personally I'd like to see a Frontier zone for Free Companies though. Once your Free Company has an Airship, you get your own randomly generated zone filled with random enemies and so on which basically plays out like Minecraft/Terraria; Build a base, defend your base (from FATEs lawl), explore, change the landscape, find dungeons.

    I would personally love to see Airships have unique and diverse roles.

    There's so many possibilities but what can "work" is subjective when it comes to getting people to implement feedback and proper criticism (and I mean criticism not plain out whining and tantrum throwing).

    Though I do hope we can get free travel and selected travel (might need our own crew, retainer potential?).

    Kinda like how we have now with the Chocobo mount where you can take any route you wish and aggro mobs or take the Chocobo porter at a cost but it's a direct safe route.
