Haven't seen anyone actually talk about what they've come out with since the patch went down, if people feel the desire to share your results, here's the spot!

2.25 included Materia Transmutation - basically you're supposed to take 5 pieces of materia, give them to the goblin Mutamix, he'll then give you a single piece of different materia. Could be good, could be bad.
It's also why the market wards are going crazy with prices for otherwise horrible materia at the moment.
All I know so far is if you trade in 5 of any materia of the same tier (i.e. 5 Fire IV materia), you have a chance of receiving any materia from the same tier (i.e. any tier IV materia). I also traded in 1 IV materia, 3 III, and 1 I, and got a mind IV, but I haven't tested much beyond that. If nothing else, it is system to transmute shitty elemental materia into something potentially worthwhile.
GW2 Has something like this, where you can combine 4 items of like rarity to hopefully get a new higher rarity item. I used it for dyes mainly, to get that coveted white/black one that you could never find lol.2.25 included Materia Transmutation - basically you're supposed to take 5 pieces of materia, give them to the goblin Mutamix, he'll then give you a single piece of different materia. It's random, like practically everything in the game. It seems like the only influences are the tiers of materia that you put in (obviously). The more of a specific tier materia you put in, the more likely you'll get something of that sort.
By example: 5x t3 materia = ~95% chance of t3 materia being returned. The remainder can be either a t4 or a downgrade to t2/1. Whereas 2x t3, 2x t1, 1x t2 materia = ~35% t3, ~35% t1, ~18% t2, remainder is whatever. Obviously my percentages aren't going to be accurate, but it gives the idea.
The type is 100% random and seems to have no affecting influence, as far as I've tried/heard. Resist materia have yielded combat/secondary/gathering/crafting/resist materia. Likewise for those types yielding the same. As far as anyone knows, t5 materia has not been introduced yet, so there's no way to upgrade when using t4 materia.

I've only tried it once but.
Put in 2 x Water Tier 2 and 3 x Earth Tier 2
got a Quicktongue Tier 2
Hahaha. Awesome. Wondering now if all my random elemental resistance materia I've been putting up the market boards with sometimes stupid prices have been selling. Been doing that for last month or so. At least 18 tier II or above. 4000 - 80,000 (tier IV)
I shall see when I get home.
At most the elemental T4s are worth 1/5 of the average good T4 materia price.Hahaha. Awesome.
