There could also be "Airship only" zones. They wouldn't fly above people's heads or anything, but a zone could be called "Above Thanalan" and it encompasses the skies above ALL of Thanalan: Eastern, Western, Northern, Southern, and Central. Zone lines could be in the sky that function like the ones on the ground, just fly into them to zone into another sky zone. IE "Skies of Thanalan" to "Above the Shroud".

SE could also populate the skybox above the ground zones with just random computerized ships. So if there are a lot of ships flying above Thanalan, the people on the ground could look up and see a bunch of random ships flying around. Maybe if there is Eorzea v. Empire airship battles, they could see these random computer controlled ships fight each other which symbolizes the people up above fighting.

If there are ground zones and sky zones, I'd like to see landmarks on the ground from the sky. So, like that thing in Cape Westwind, I wanna see that while I'm in the sky in my ship. Or if I'm flying over Coerthas, I wanna see Ishgard, or any of the city-states for that matter.

A crafting workshop where players can build vehicles such as airships.

And I'm 100% sure that they added basements to small sized houses so any Free Company with housing would have workshop space for airships. Notice the last bullet point on the preview page in the link.

There will most likely be zones and instances added specifically for airship content. I'm super excited for it!

As of now Air-ships appear to be a content used to travel into zones out of reach from ground travel.

Current info shows that Air-ships will not be a flying mount but more like a traveling item used to access places only Air-ships can reach such as New continents, dungeons, and etc.

basically if you want to access certain contents you may be required to have your own Air-ship if you want to access certain content or new areas in future contents

Such as if we are given a Garlean Mothership as a New dungeon during a Garlean Air-ship Armada vs GC Air-ship Armada event we will need a Air-ship to unlock the dungeon and enter it so we can continue the storyline.

Think a few zones will be:
    1. Nym Ruins
    2. Garlean Airships
    3. In the middle of nowhere islands
    4. Allagan Spaceships

We all know it'll work like this:

After spending millions of gil, tons of materials and likely hundreds of man hours to build your very own FC airship...

You will have an airship dock at your FC house, that can only be used there, that brings up a menu of the 3 cities. It will have a short, skippable ~10 second cutscene of you flying away/landing at the city.

And that's it. Nothing more, just a dock at your house identical in function to those in each city.

There will be two kinds of Air-ships for players to obtain being...

Personal Air-ships = Personal Character Use

    FC Air-ships = FC use

There is also going to be a default location outside of housing for players to craft their Personal and FC Air-ships.

Only location I can think of that SE would add into the game to serve as the hub for crafting Air-ships is the Garlond Ironwork's Headquarters which we don't have access to yet.

If 3.0 does require Air-ships for certain Main Scenario content you can be certain a small part of 3.0 Main Scenario will be about obtaining our Default Design Personal Air-ship for our own character.

The current air-ship models in the game are the small air-ships being Tiny Bronco and Enterprise as examples so we already a sample of small air-ships
