Que times are horrible. 4v4 isn't for everyone, but arena style pvp makes people play better. That is, if you want to take the time to learn. My experience in most pvp games that I have played. They do need other forms of pvp. Arena style is just kind of boring now. They should of released another form of pvp from the start. Not everyone want's 4v4. Objective based pvp is also great too. They should also have a system that keeps higher ranked players from rolling over people just starting. Specific roles are great, but they need more than just that.

In a game where healers can sprint freely, used moves to become invincible, and pop heals to full recover an ally. Arena style combat does not make you a better player in the least bit. All it makes you do is play chase and hope the other dps in your group can pester the healer while you burst down a dps... forcing them to split heals.
The exp/marks per win/lose is too low. SE tries to make it seem like PvP is always packed, fun, fast, and challenging. It's more like a terrible version of a tome grind.
Even as a player who is already relatively high in the ranking system all the mmr did was make our ques even slower so getting to rank 40 is even more of a grind and a chore. I'm in que for 7-20 minutes for a match I will only get 20-60 exp for.
I played PVP for the first time. After going in as my tank and getting "Sleep" put on me before I could play, ruined it for the long run. After the thrashing I received, I took a look at the armors. There is no way that you could grind that much in a reasonable amount of time. It would take years since you get 20 for loosing and 60 for winning soloing the match. Like Mardel said, the EXP/MARKS is way too low to even warrant a need to get those new armors. The grinding sucks since a match takes you 32 mins on average (Jenova) to even get in one.
The armors for vanity purposes look amazing, but is it worth the time out of PVE to do so? There just needs to be something there. But in my overall opinion you could do one of two things Square-Enix.
1. Fix everything in the PVP balance and match making.
2. Adjust the prices of those ridiculous armors to compensate the time needed for the match. I mean in the low hundreds to gain said gear so we can go back to PVE in a timely manner.
