Ever since they got rid of Hamlet Defense in 1.0, I've been wondering if we'd ever see any content where crafters and gatherers would have to party together to accomplish something...

I used to have fun HamletingHope there is something some day that we can all work together again like that.
I'd love to be able to do a bit of combat as my DoL as well. Maybe have certain monsters drop unique items when killed by a DoL?
I've been itching to take my axe to a treant, and coblyns look like you might get some interesting items after a pickaxe or two to the face.
Allow players to gather, at cost of GP or whatnot, even when in combat classes? Incap a coblyn, mine living ore of its backside before it can move again?I'd love to be able to do a bit of combat as my DoL as well. Maybe have certain monsters drop unique items when killed by a DoL?

...but, we got rid of Incaps...
Or even... what if gathering classes involved skills and both they and combat classes involved knowledge enough for one's time spent mining or harvesting in an area to actually give you a good idea as to the weaknesses of local monsters? o.O
Just need a good old war. Quarries to use and defend, groves with rare herbs but also dangerous monsters with distinct behaviors and long aggro ranges; convoys, scouting parties, setting up watch towers and checkpoints; garrisons, arming NPCs; forts, siege weapons; coordinated series of attacks each a bit similar to FATEs aimed to achieve larger objectives...
So dailies it is then....
Kinda shame looking at all the cool suggestions. Honestly I would have been pretty excited for literally ANY of them.
I guess I'll just ignore ALL THESE 50s I leveled until there's a reason to use them again.
Even the simple task of attaching materia is completely useless because post ilvl50 there are no slots...none.
Daily quests? Could just shorten the timers on Grand Company supply missions.
Been years since using this forum. @_@
I'd like to see a system in place where DoH/DoL gets to do something on a grander scale. Perhaps aiding in the construction or reconstruction of towns by providing the necessary lumber and stone or crafting furnishings for the townspeople. Ul'dah's population explosion is ripe for the pickings when it comes to the lore behind it, and it's a great way to keep the classes relevant.
Rewards can include rarer materials, such as the elusive dress material or sailor cotton. It could also include new gear for the DoH/DoL classes to make the climb to 3-star crafting a little bit friendlier (something I'm a strong advocate of anyway). This game has such a beautifully rich crafting system, and I absolutely LOVE crafting. But it feels sorely neglected and only seems to be an afterthought when it comes to updates and additions.
I'm with the OP. Crafters and gatherers need a revolution. I levelled all my crafters to level 50, simply because I enjoyed the climb. But it sure is quiet and lonely at the top.
I'm in for a DoH/DoL Revolution, but as has been said dailies aren't enough. I want to see something creative and interesting!
You want to involve crafters? Bring back a game that I used to play, EVE-Online, and they have it right. The solution is simple, really. It is so simple, you can smack yourself silly thinking why you didn't think of that.
Solution: STOP HANDING OUT ALL THE GEARS
SE, how about having the game just giving out your no-frill no enhancement gears, and only the crafters are allowed to produce anything better, in ARR's case, the star gears?
The classes needs to depend on each other, and if they aren't needed, they serves no purpose in the game.
