I was hoping PS4 would support in game voice chat (at least while in party) but that did not happen.
You can make party chats of up to 8 people on PSN. Doesn't matter what game you're playing or if you're even playing a game at all. The PS4 comes with an ear bud and mic that plugs into the controller. You can also use any compatible headset/earbud setup so long as at has the same plug type.im curious as i'm about to switch ps3 to ps4 next month, is there an in-game voicechat especially for ps4 players? or does the ps4 have a chat feature that runs on its OS for every game? otherwise i don't understand this, i've always just ran ts3 on my laptop or phone as ps3 has no way to voicechat
With your phone use the PS app. Connect to PS4. Once connected you then hit Virtual Keyboard (I think that's what it's called, it's the little keyboard symbol). You still have to hit triangle to open a chat window in game. Then whatever you type on your virtual keyboard comes out on screen. I found it to be pretty inefficient though honestly. Every time your phone goes into sleep mode you then have to open the app again, hit the keyboard button again, click triangle on the controller still. In the end I just plugged a USB keyboard into my PS4.
Thank you and you are right, I'm better of just using the controller. I have become rather adept at using the point and click feature to select letters with the ps4 controller. In case anyone is not aware of this feature just hit r3 when you have the keyboard open, it's much easier and faster than using the pad or stick to select letters, once you get used to it.

I hd the same experience. I'm awaiting a USB keyboard in the mail. With your phone use the PS app. Connect to PS4. Definitely check Thumb Knights out then. No keyboard needed. And language wise everyone is either American or from the UK. We have 19 people that are on daily at this point and everyone helps everyone else out as far as leveling, dungeons, advice etc. We have a bunch of MMO vets and a few first timers learning the ropes as well. We have fun and we're progressing well, got a couple people in the 80s, a few in the 70s, a few fresh 50s and people just taking it at a leisurely pace. No pressure to do anything you don't feel like doing. So long as your cool and respectful to everyone I'd think you'd enjoy our little group.
If you want your FC to communicate through the PS4's voice chat, I'm pretty sure that limits your FC to only 8 players. That's not necessarily a point against the idea, as small FCs can be great if they're active enough to make friends with the other few people in them. But it is a limitation that you'll need to consider.
For instance, making an all-FC dungeon run at high levels where you have 8 people in your party would require all 8 FC members to be there for it. And on any dungeon runs that include non-FC members you'd be back to using text chat anyway. (So you still need a keyboard, because you'll sometimes need to use it to communicate. It's just a matter of whether you always need to use it.)
New players only get bashed for refusing to communicate at all, which nobody has suggested. You're not going to get bashed for communicating more effectively through voice in place of the clumsy and limited communication through text.
They're in-game text chat. Just private chat channels within the regular chat window.
