I think 14 having static cap for long period will be difficult if the game stays in the one weapon = one class and wear-gear-whenever mode because there is less need for situational gear as there was in FFXI. In FFXI you could have -PDT gear on almost any job, and MND sets, Enfeebling sets, Utsusemi recast sets, etc which made for a lot gear opportunities. It is almost the case that in FFXI they constrained you at first via jobs, but then let you expand your job roles via gear, whereas in FFXIV you are given flexibility at first via various abilities that can be shared but that you can get more specific roles via jobs. To me seems FFXI had more options, but I guess FFXIV is still in development so we will see.
