Ahhhh yes the whole make your own fun argument. If I was good at that I would be playing a f2p game.
Do content you don't enjoy for the sake of doing content.

If someone wants to build their own adventure, there are books... or other methods of doing that besides subscribing to an adventure created by someone else... heck maybe they would be a game developer.
I don't pay to see a movie, because I want to sit in a boring movie and make up my own stories and ending to how the movie should be...
Besides, this isn't really built to be much of a sandbox game... if it was, then the "make your own adventure" comments would be a little more reasonable.
That's why I don't play Minecraft.
It's your own fault that Transcendence was a boring movie.
I believe games are meant to entertain us, not we are suppose to find ways to entertain ourselves while in a game. I do occasionally enjoy making my own fun and finding unique ways to have fun though but for the most part I believe it's the games job to do it. I know many players don't share my view and that's okay.
