Double check your speaker channel settings for the Windows API and your actual output settings for the card. I had issues like this in XP with my Xonar DX, and it was a mismatch between the two. The game was basically friendly just to either 2CH or 6CH (5.1) in the Windows API--setting it to the actual 4CH mode would knacker it up and I only got voiceovers in my back-left surround channel. My main is actually a Stereo jack to a 2.1 Altec system, with two surrounds off a stereo jack on the rear channel... so the physical connections are 4 channels. So, I had to set it as 2CH in Windows through the Control Panel/Sounds/Speaker config screen and set the Xonar up as 4CH with GX extensions active. Positional Audio still worked correctly, and voice overs were no longer stuck in my back-left speaker that way.

In the new drivers though (build 1821), you have two drop boxes now in the Xonar control panel to manage it all in one spot---the top one (Audio Channel) is for the Windows API, and the lower one (Analog Out) is for the speaker jacks on the card. You may find that you need to set the top one to either 2CH or 6CH to make it work right. The GX extensions should take over and emulate 7.1 if that is what you actually have wired up instead of 5.1.

Here's a link to the drivers page... change the drop box to your OS version for the proper drivers (think it defaults to XP):
