Definitely agree with OP. I started recently and at 20 miner and mid teens armorer, blacksmith I'm calling it quits on crafting. Just too much cross class dependency. It wouldn't be so bad if the market was reasonably priced but it's not.

I just wanted to make my level 19 sledgehammer. Cannot afford any of the fish glue on the market. Since you can't break stacks, the prices are just out of reach for a new player like me. Either huge stacks with a large per unit cost, or hugely price gouging per unit cost with a small number of units. So I look it up on a wiki, and I see I'll have to learn fishing to get the fish, then alchemy to make the glue.

Until you can buy partial stacks, or they just put all this intermediate garbage on a merchant, it'll just be way too time consuming to do everything myself. And I just can't take any more gathering. So boring. It was only ten o'clock and I was falling asleep in my chair.

I just failed a 98% vanya sash of casting.
I am so pissed it failed, and therefore i agree with everything you say.

I really don't get the potash thing either, make it expensive ok, but limited why ?
So now you can hardly produce vanya items. Its not even better then gear from Mor Dhona.
Unless you fill it up with materia, but after that you can do that all again with Cashmere.....

Is a Vanya item worth 400k ? I guess not because almost nobody is buying that stuff. I sell gear for crafters, two pieces also go for 300k-400k, its not that people can't afford it.
Its just there for the crafters and their entourage not for other people. And that's just weird.

Kartolo lol 400k? that's like gold. I think its all world dependant because in our world potash goes for $5-8k each and Vanya items max 120k atm. I would normally make it a point if I was crafting anymore to buy coke/potash/animal fat etc at 5k each and make an item from it. (Stocking fillers!)

And most materials are only available once every 45 minutes because the truckhumpin Tree Fairy forbays you from touching the Spruce more than once a day. It being one of only FOUR SPRUCE EVER which, by the way, Spruce grows in Temperate climates so why is it only found in the land of Rocks and Snow? BULLTULIP!
Would you prefer it if it took months for a tree to grow big enough to allow you to get a small amount of wood from it? Since apparently you're going for 'realism' in your rant/whining post..

I agree. Crafting seems a bit pointless. It's very grindy. I just can't get into it.

I like current crafting system. Being self-sufficient is the point of crafting. It is not pointless.

I thoroughly enjoy your writing style, even if I don't fully agree with everything you wrote, you make some very valid points. The absolute biggest frustration in crafting is the materia system and crafters reliance on it to even be able to attempt the highest level synths. On my server, with current prices, I have 2 options for this, gather a ton of materials, make multiple sets of i55 crafting gear for whatever class I want to SB with, gather a ton of crafting materia, oh yeah, then there's shards, holywtfomg the shards. It takes about 2000 shards to SB a crafters set, congrats, you got RNG 1 T4 and 6 useless T3 materia, now do that 27 more times and you might have enough materia to meld your first DoH class, only 7 more to go, yay. So after you spend 6 trillion hours grinding shards and another 400 hours watching reruns while your character auto crafts a million useless gemstones, you now get to craft gear that is at best a stop gap until you can get that elusive drop.

The other option is just buy materia, which, at current prices, I could either meld all my crafting classes so I can make all the materials that I can sell to, wait, oh yeah, the other insane people who have melded their crafting gear and can make the same thing (This is the biggest flaw in the crafting system, since every crafter is just about forced to have all DoH at 50, there's no market for selling cross crafting materials) or I could use that same gil and buy large FC house, all for myself, it's about the same price.

    Great Strides Steps

I'm still new to crafting and I just have a question about the action Great Strides, in the description of the action its suspose to be active for 3 steps but on the very next action it will drop out entirely is it suppose to do that or is it because I have other actions active?

It is active for 3 turns or until you increase quality. The 3 turns allows time to do things like Observe and the like. Thus, you have 3 turns to get a Good or Excellent before using your quality increase.
