    Fates & waiting...waiting...waiting

    Do the game developers and testers actually try playing the game to wait for the fates detailed in the Atma upgrade books?

    I can do other things while waiting...or I can semi-afk while waiting but that's beside the point. Why in blazes do we have to wait for hours for one particular FATE when all others in the area have cycled countless times in the same period?

    Can't imagine this being fun for any type of player....

    Testing Atma: increase drop rate to 50%, do 5 FATEs and got few Atma, PASS, change back to 0.5%.
    Testing Book FATE: hit a debug button to trigger the required FATE, finish and see it record in the book, PASS.

    Do you realize if they popped instantly everyone would rush and come complain about having nothing to geeeeeeeeeez. No but seriously is just bad artificial waiting to extend the quest until the next phase.

    This might purely be a hunch, but for the 3 FATEs required to finish a book on my first four? I always camp on where the FATE usually pops out and all the time, roughly within an hour (mostly less than 20 minutes after one just shows up), another one will pop out ready for me to charge in with my stardust blazing. Can it be that proximity of a player to a FATEs location increases their frequency? Im not sure, but experience tells me somehow it 'might'. Waiting is no problem for me because im a crafter so all i have to do is bring mats, craft at a safe spot until it pops out. It takes so much time anyway to run from towns to the actual site. "Raid" FATE's are the worst where their location is too remote to get help from especially when there is not a soul around. Eventually, soloing becomes the only feasible way to deal with it and that requires all the time you need before the timer runs out.

    Finished 3 books' fates...each one had at least one that made me wait for ~3 hours...and I didn't miss any pops.
    Please tell me what you can do to occupy 3 hours worth of time in a zone. Can't leave for instances or zone out because it might pop while you are gone.
    - Mindlessly farming mobs for nothing worth dropping most of the time.
    - Crafting...Can you even fill your inventory with 3 hours worth of craft materials?
    - Semi-AFK (can't completely afk either because you might miss)
    - Can't move too far from FATE spot during prime time because they get finished before you even reach it.

    E.g.
    South Thanalan - Bridge fight, some Amaljaa "Black Smoke" NPC
    Coerthas - Zepps
    East Shroud - That mushroom fight in Sylph land

    Did you know there was plenty of players on this forum that before 2.2 actually requested open world stuff that they had to camp and wait for to pop?

    Let me elaborate on this because I very much believe in you reap what you sow. Everyone hailed and praised FFXI like it was the Lord and Savior itself and wanted the equivalent of NM's to be in this game along with the grind for the relic and everything else FFXI had. I saw that and shook my head because XI is still up and running for ppl to play.

    Lo and behold here we are, so the next time OP you see an ex-FFXI player opening their mouth talking about nostalgia and the good old days, politely put them down. Because you do not want anything from that game

    I don't like it either. And right now I'm on a fate that I can't solo. And who would want to sit around with me for 2 hours just to help me out with a fate?
    Being a whitemage in a boss fate sucks. I can survive but I can't kill the boss before the time ran out.
    Yesterday I completed one fate cause when it had 2 mins left a tank and a bard came helping me and the boss went down soo fast. While me spamming stone deals like less than 1% per stone 2

    So I'm kinda stuck til someone comes around and helps me out
