Wedding service in FFXIV

After reading about Yoshida confirming that there will be female Rogeadyn, and male Mi'qote available on PS3 release, a thought occurred to me. When FFXIV gets its inevitable wedding service (once the game is brought up to par), will same sex marriage be allowed? And for that matter, will interracial marriages be allowed?

In FFXI, players could only marry players of the opposite sex, which is being seen more and more as a viewpoint from the last generation. With each of the races finally having their own respective mates of the opposite sex, will we be limited to marrying within our own species? Or will we allowed to marry outside of our species, as long as the person we are marrying is of the opposite gender?

These concerns may seem dumb to some, but I remember the issue being hotly contested more than once on FFXI forums, and there is still no same sex marriage allowed in game, much to the chagrin of many of the players.

I never did get married in FFXI, but I know there were people that wanted to marry their Mithras or whatnot and were unable to. I'd hate for something similar to happen in FFXIV and cause frustration for other FF lovers again.

Anyone here ever play lucent heart? It's an asian mmo you can signup to get paired with a random player who becomes your soulmate. You get buffs for emoting ie hugs kiss etc. There's even a server wide message announcing when two players have their first kiss. Anyways you have the option to choose same gender partners. The world didn't end, no four horsemen outside and no puppies were hurt. I do agree with what others have said, just have marriage be for everyone or don't allow it all.

I'll have to jump in with a different fact. The fact being, stuff like same-sex couples and marriages already exist for a long time, they're present and they can't be ignored. Really, they can't. You have them everywhere politics, pop-culture, media, art, science.... you name it, in just about any aspect of modern society. A thing like that won't just vanish, nor can it be, heaven forbid, forcefully eradicated.

Whether it's good or bad from the genetic/medical/existential point of view doesn't really matter here, I'd dare to say, since it could be easily said the human race, from a genetic mutation standpoint, evolved into something that allows those mutations to exist and function without penalties. Gay people can still opt to have offspring if they so chose. From that point of view, the human race has a secure future, until we overpopulate the planet even more.

Then there's couples straight or gay that don't produce offspring, also sharing the planet and enjoying the same rights as other individuals. Or not, depending where you live, but it's certainly moving towards that at a slow pace. And this is the sociological aspect of it. People wanting to transfer that part of their reality into a game is just a natural extension of their real lives. They are a big part of modern society, which for the most part revolves around sex and hormones anyway. I could elaborate if needed, but I'll stop here before I stray too far in one post.

The main thing here is not whether you and I think what's right or wrong, it's whether SE thinks a thing like including same-sex marriages will raise their $$$ or diminish it, versus general company image. If they figure the tolerance towards the subject will be satisfactory (the people opposing it are lower than the ones supporting) and the number of bonus points and new players they'll get is worth it (new players come in bigger numbers than the people opposing this) they'll make a decision with less brain strain.

Frankly, the Japanese aren't exactly 'strangers to danger' either, when it comes to this particular topic. Much like some other things today, the topic of homosexuality has become a touchy one (hell, there's still prejudice towards people with tattoos in most parts of the world) but they do have a nice history of it: link

There really isn't any indication that he is anything but serious.

As for myself, there really is not any good reason they shouldn't allow marriage between gay people.
Unless of course they want to be marriage hipsters.

It's getting late and I'm getting tired, so this will likely be my last post.

Not only do I not believe in evolution, at least in the sense that people often give it, the theory is one of the most preposterous ideas ideas of mankind, imo. You cannot breath life in lifeless genetic material. It must have the genetics to do so in the first place (cloning). On top of that, things break down, way more than anything that might be considered "up". Over time, everything turns back to dust.

More than that... just where did the dust come from? The genetic material? The chemical makeup? Do you have the answers to those? They just happened to arrange themselves in a proper and exact order? I think not. One chromosome off in humans, and you have downsyndrome. As complex as our bodies are, the goo would have never gotten off the ground.

Most DNA is practically identical.. Apes are a single chromosome away but most animals still share the majority of their DNA. It is the foundation of life as an organic creature.

You're getting further down into chemical makeup. We share the same genetic material make-up, but gorilla dna is distinct from dog is distinct from human. But beyond that is our ability to think and create, far beyond what any animal can do.

Cancer is not an STD. It is, in fact, further breakdown of our bodies, mutations that are not good. I doubt it's from any one source, which is why scientists are having trouble pinpointing it.

Edit: I realized you might have been talking about cervical cancer, which simply links back to the overall sexual activity I mentioned in my first post.

It really astounds me that some people can be so certain of their fabricated "Scientific evidence" while refuting the basis of most science their entire ideas are founded on. Not only this, but considers themselves intellectual enlightened while truly just blinding themselves with a self-righteous light.

Instead of just spewing Nonsense, I'm going to address a point brought up by Chezen.

At the same time, no one (this isn't American thought) has the right to cause disorder in a society that would negatively affect it. What I mean by that is, even if it wouldn't be a big deal in your world, if it pulls down society at large, it should be done without.

I really don't even understand why this is a hot-topic issue. All of the responses about Daddy telling you it's bad, or how offensive it is to you are just unjustified viewpoints. Everyone is entitled to your opinion, But I ask you to do me three things.

1. Put yourself in their shoes. Do unto others as you want done onto you.

2. Sit back and think "Why does this anger me, or make me uncomfortable?!"

3. Never say "I can't make a difference" Cause it starts with one person. Look back at our society, We've been through this with race differences, sex differences, and they all end in equality eventually. Make the difference and start with yourself.
