Seen these weird things too many times now.

Recently I've been noticing some odd PCs on Shiva that seem highly suspicious.

The names usually all include Shiva in it somewhere, and they have some random arbitrary word or even not a word at all following as the second half of the PC's name. Then there's usually several of them all next to each other. They usually share a Race, but I've seen groups that had 3 Lalafells and 1 Hume and so on. One thing that really sticks out though is that they're all wearing the exact same gear.



For instance, warping into Ul'Dah I saw four of these matching PCs. They all had Shiva in the name, and were all Humans. Weirdest thing was that they were all Thaumaturges or Black Mages, didn't check the class, were using an Astrolabe HQ, and had very low leveled gear on, like 10s and 20s stuff. None of them were moving, and as I was telling someone else about the creepy thing I was seeing, they all disappeared at the same time.

What's going on with these sort of PCs? What is someone using them for? They don't have the usual RMT names but something weird is still going on.

Yup those are probably RMT bots. In very rare cases they could be multi boxing as well. But multi boxing 4 characters would take some talent to do, but it can be done.

Maybe acting as a ninja and using extra characters as afterimages. Messing with ya really, probably RMT spiritbinding gear/farming stuff.

There's a group of them on Balmung that sit in the South Shroud casting Blizzard 2 on mobs for weeks at a time.

I reported them probably a dozen times. They have been doing it since beta and are still there doing it.

I'm a boxer myself, and i checked by curiosity the lodestone and search by character name.
I can be wrong, but i seriously doubt it's a legit boxer :
- I think it's kinda strange that none of his toons is on FC (Even if he don't care about getting his own house, i don't see a reason for a boxer to waste this opportunity and don't get any bonus).
- I counted 9 characters, all 50 occultist. No other job. I don't really get the point. Yeah, 8 is a full party, but why 9 ? Maybe just reroll team to get extra 50 retainers, but it's kinda strange.
- All of them are occultist. So yeah, you know the stereotype of a boxer who use the exact same class to simplificate his playstyle. But we are not a pvp oriented game, that make no sense to play this kind of team on a pve game, and all other boxer (with 4box or more) that i know use mixed team (or at least a pseudo-hybrid class like arcanist).
- His stuff is weird, he have some ilvl 55 probably buyed on the AH, and the rest of his items are arround lvl 10. I know that when you level a team, you don't always micro manage, but in his case it seems he did all the way with lvl 10 items and just buy a one or two ilvl55 items when he hit cap level.
- He got no mount !

Best bet is always to ask before jumping to conclusion, but in this case, i doubt it's legit.
Keep in mind that boxing is not botting, but sadly nothing prevent a botter to (poorly) mimic a boxer.
Anyway, you can always write a report, it's the GM work to see the difference.

rmt in 1.0 were all about multi-boxing full pts of identical characters with crappy gear on all the time, and they were never dealt with for doing it this way either, they were allowed to their own evices with their twinkie lala's, so I would not be surprised if they were to start doin this again. I even used to joke with my ls mates back then that the reason SE let them do it so much is cuz they were paying for so many accounts that they were the ones really supporting 1.0 lol

Dual/Multiboxer, basically someone with multiple accounts playing them at the same time, either via a windowing type program or multiple computers(boxes, source of the name).

strange, i ran into the same thing on cactuar. this guy kept logging in and out between two chrs, and had the exact same gear except one was blm, and the other thm. same fc and everything

Same, I keep seeing three midlander black mages in Mor Dhona's mailbox, they wear the same darklight gear, have the same name with one or two different letters and they always appear and disappear at the same time.

I've also encountered 2-3 characters fighting the same low level mob right on top of each other in starter gear. They don't move away from each other like players usually do, they stick to each other like glue.
