Gil: What pleasures can you indulge yourself with it?

One of my favorite things to do in an MMORPG is make money and spend that money on fun things. Whether it be casinos, items for show (like fireworks), buying new emotes, etc and things along those lines, what pleasures can I use gil for?
The only thing I can think of is housing.

Would be awesome to play in casinos, duel (freely) against your friends for (optionally) money/items on the line, buy and setup party tents, hire companions, maybe even try some of Wineports finest wine, etc, and pretty much anything that brings the game to life.

Doesn't it come to a point, where you're maxed out and all the combat/crafting labor is done. What is left? Gil/money is my usual guess.

I'm new to this game so I'm wondering if I should just quit trying to make gil if there isn't anything fun to spend it on.

Good question. I am also new here and have heard from different people that Gil later on is pretty useless... I love gathering and crafting and making money so I hope there would be a good use for it.

There are lots of pretty shiny new i90 crafted gear you can dump mounds of gil on. Same with the new level 1 gear for vanity. You can invest that gil into gear crafting and materia to be able to make and harvest all the new shinies.

Besides that, like you said, housing can be a huge gil sink. Make it your goal to own a mansion on your mule thats a FC of 1 (just make sure to log in every 35 days to keep it).

That's basically what people are saving their money for - housing and everything that goes with it. There is some nice vanity gear recently added that is quite expensive to buy too (ala, the sailor outfit/spring dress), plus the glamour prism items needed for the whole vanity system are very expensive if you don't craft them yourself, so that's another option.

Also a casino of sorts is coming later (the Gold Saucer, from FFVII), which is bound to include all kinds of minigames you can blow your gil on too.

One of the things I like to do, is craft gear/accessories for low levels. One day I had a ton of low level GSM materials and so I stood in Ul'dah offering free jewelry crafted upon request.

I thought it would be nice to do, but it turned out to be fun, and later see them using it on their characters gave me a nice feeling when I ran into them later.

I even began to spend my gil to get some mats to make more specialized items for people later on. The mats are cheap/easy to farm and so I was able to make tons of it for anyone who needed.

saving for a house. Got no interest in crafted i90. imo the marketboard and crafting and trying to gain gil is a fun all in itself.

I want a house to garden. I think in a future expansion/patch there might be chocobo breeding in relation to housing???
