FFXIV has the potential to be, and may well become the best of all MMOs ... in about 3-5 years.
By that time it won't garner the attention needed to create a huge player base,
but hey, for those of us that do play it,
It'll be awesome.

I've been saying forever FFXIV right now even first year of FFXI, they had a bazaar system and they didn't have an AH, stuff was ridiculous. But its still no excuse for FFXIV having a similar launch if you get what I'm saying.
Was released before it was ready. Putting aside design flaws, from a technical point XIV shouldn't have been released for at least another year while basic features were brought up to speed. Such as mouse + Keyboard + UI + server problems to name a few.
I think the Market Ward system took inspiration from XI's player base that parked their bazaar account out in Battalia Downs (or wherever it was on your server).
They borrowed that idea, and decided to add an official spin. Allow players to station an NPC in an appropriate zone. They probably would have fleshed out the design further, but likely had other priorities and because of the premature launch, tells me they didn't have enough time needed to make the MW system actually work effectively.
