That's a great definition you've sort of invented there, of what is good and bad fan service, but clearly that's your opinion. That would imply, however, that Jenova or any other FF boss would have to be included as a main boss, and if it was optional, then it would be good fan service and no one should have a problem with it (by your definition).

noooo..that still fall under the Family Guyesque "Hey Kids Remember the Eigthies" type shoehorning for the sake of shoehorning. Jenova was a freakin' Big Bad... if you add it as anything other than a Big Bad, then what's the point other than fan jollies. when you do obvious fanservice for the sake of obvious fanservice, it's bad, when you do that you're no better than that dullard who keeps yelling lines from Taladega Nights, or Anchorman and wonders why no one is laughing.

People saying you can't add iconic bosses forget we are getting gold saucer which although not a boss is an iconic piece of FFVII, we have already had Lightning and Snow and FFXIII related content, DQX stuff and Shantotto from XI.

I don't see the problem with adding JENOVA especially if they incorporate it into the storyline, it just takes a bit of imagination and open mindedness to get past the fact it was in VII.

Bleh. No. Not just no, by the everloving twelve no. Enough liberties were taken with the plot of BOTH games to make the XIII thing happen, we don't need a VII event.

Locations that share a name, clothing, weaponry, these things you can have. "Oh, hey, we raided this Garlean armory, and found some weird prototype stuff." Easy to pass off. No actual bosses, though -unless- you can actually change it to fit the lore (like they're doing with Final Fantasy III bosses for Crystal Tower right now.) Also, I'd rather they use older Final Fantasies for that before getting to the more modern ones.

Oh, and no Sephiroth. Ever. I don't care if they change his name to Sheproth van Douchenozel, and he's a legate stirring up trouble trying to prove he can take the Emperor's seat, if he's a long, white haired bishie with mommy issues and a sword obviously overcompensating for something...just...NO.

The only reason I would be interested in this would be to hear a new Soken remix. Aside from that, I would much prefer them to continue on with the current lore-appropriate big bads like Nero tol Scaevo, Nael van Darnus, Emperor Solus, and the rest of the Garleans. They have done a fantastic job creating the Empire with its own lore, making it very much its own entity from previous Final Fantasy Empires.

However, I will say... Months ago, I remember hearing that Yoshida had teased about a fight where players could team up to defeat many of the old Final Fantasy villians at once. I'd love to take down Mateus, Kefka, Ex-Death, and Kuja all at one time. Absolutely nothing story based, but just a little bit of fun with other players. I suppose that if Jenova was handled in that manner, I wouldn't mind it terribly. Maybe prefix any fights referencing old games with something noting that they aren't canon.

Pretty much what he said, Jenova was not originally from Gaia, and as others have said, it'd be easy for the Garleans to "discover" her body in some crater or excavation site like they did with Ultima Weapon. And just as well, since Jenova is an extraterrestrial with the capability of interplanetary travel, its quite possible to see Jenova make an appearance in Eorzea with no negative impact on the lore, however if Jenova does make an appearance I think she'd be best off as an optional side boss instead of being a part of main story. I think it'd be pretty cool to see Jenova make an appearance with the new graphics vs FFVII's, she's creepy as hell but who cares!? That's half the fun.

Or another thought, Jenova landed on Dalamud before it fell and is now lying dormant somewhere in Mor Dhona.

Jenova is too much a key part of VII. It should never be in any other game. It would be like putting battles against Garland or Zeromus in this game. But collaboration games like Dissidia are a fun place for that.

sadly jenova will not work, since she don't cross the dimension...tough other iconic boss that have this power can appear at some time. and even if people don't like this, just remember what have said lahabrea at the end of praetorium, the dimensional way are open. everything can happend from now.

^ That's the beauty of fantasy, things don't have to make sense or be realistic to make it a reality in the imaginary world.
