Using a keyboard with ps4

I've been playing for a bit and now realize how much I need a keyboard for chat. Plugged in my USB keyboard and can't type? My ps4 recognizes it, but the game doesn't.. Do I need to enable it in game some how? Been at it for like 15 minutes and gave up. I've never used a keyboard on a system before so I have no idea. Any help for a noob? Btw, I went on my 2nd dungeon run on a low level and got booted out earlier... I even warned them a few times I needed help because it was my second time. Wow it kinda of turned me off to dungeon hunting with how not helpful people have been.

I also use an Iogear USB keyboard. Plug and play, ps4 detects right away, no issues. I don't recall having to go into character settings to toggle keyboard on or anything like that. Double check just to be sure.

Hmmm... I'm prob doing something wrong. It doesn't work... It's just a cheaply USB keyboard.

Alternatively, you can use the vita as a keyboard (Second screen, not remote play). It's really almost just as fast as a keyboard if your used to the vita keyboard.

You can set it up so it uses wifi when it goes to power save standby (does not apply to manual standby), then the connection to the PS4 won't be lost and you can chat away easily.

What exactly are you doing? Click the input in the chat bar try and type /p /l /fc whichever then type out what you want to say? Do you have direct chat enabled? That will automatically input what you type into the chat bar when you start typing. Without this you will have to do what I previously mentioned. I'm using a cheap logitec keyboard and its had no problems.

It's usually what throws people when they plug in a USB keyboard and then it doesn't work. It does, but I believe that the standard setting has Direct Chat turned off, meaning the keyboard is used for controlling the character.

Turn Direct Chat on, and whenever you press a key, it'll automatically start typing in the chat box.

Took me a while to work it out, but yeah, there it is.

I have an official Keypad for my PS3, but I bought THIS for the PS4. Setting it up was easy, and it works like an absolute charm.

I actually have direct chat turn off when using a keyboard in tandem with my controller on a PS4.
Having it turned off allows me to use the hot keys and I only have to hit enter to start chatting, exactly like what you would do if playing on a PC and want to type.

If direct chat is off the keyboard will definitely still work on a PS4.

If all else fails. Default the setting, I jumped in from the start using a spare desktop . keyboard and had no issues. Except for the touch motion pointer on the controllers. Which was a pain till I wash enlightened and switched it to toggle clicking.
