I think there needs to be a bit of a clarification, though I think this has been said before...

An "Elite" Player; Generally no one has used this term since the early 2000's, but they are generally good at the game, make guides, and such. They can be insular and exclusionary when new progression content is released, but once they've cleared it, tend to open up their ranks and will allow in or even rotate newer players through. Typically gun for world first...etc.

An "Elitist" Player; this term is used more often these days, but is negative. Typically, rude and hold other players to a standard they themselves don't meet, or way to high that even some of the players that beat them out for world first couldn't reach it. Often far less skilled than their boasts would lead one to believe. and typically blame anyone/anything that can't or won't fight back, but never themselves for mistakes that are demonstrably their own fault.

It's all about attitude in the end, "Elite" Players have good attitudes and manners and obvious skill in the game, "Elitist" Players, seemed to have been raised by particularly unfriendly wolves, and have the gaming skills of a newborn harp seal.

People would call about half of the ones on this comic "elitists."

The fact is any semi-skilled to skilled played could be called an elitist. The game doesn't always help matters either. I don't have to be elitist to know that the dps doing less damage than a tank is holding 7 people back from victory. There is nothing elite about recognizing the fact that a fight has a dps check (a enrage timer perhaps) and that without enough damage you can not, and will not win. To many people the players that acknowledge this simple truth of the game get labeled as elitist automatically. You can have fun throwing your face against something all you want but eventually you're just wasting your time if a player can't get their act together. This leads eventually to someone being forced to say something to the player who is blatantly holding everyone back. That person will also be labeled an elitist. The fact remains that it was the battle with its strict dps check that forced 7 players to find the weak link and get rid of it. Thus making every one of them an elitist in most peoples eyes. You can not win some of these fights off of dreams and honey sweet kisses. You need to actually be able to do your job, and do it reasonably well.

*stands back and waits to be called an elitist*

Oh, I didn't see this one... Hm... elitist is.....

My enemies, yes!... They are the opposite this noob is, and I'll always try to not be ever close to be like them, from now on I'll have a supreme nooby-patience, I'll help all the people that asks me for, I'll be humble and avoid being an arrogant, I'll enjoy the game instead of saying how much it sucks.....

Yes... Indeed, elitist is the opposite to this noob, that's what this noob thinks.

The word elitist is as meaningless as the word hipster these days.

Elitists are a secret society that has existed since almost the beginning of time, they have changed appearance and names through the years, but something about them makes them keep outing themselves to the world, and they are then forced to go back into hiding once again until they feel they are needed. They have done little good throughout time, but claim a ton of it, but it is true the world would not be the same today if it had not been for these elitists and their long line of ancestors.

The first known clan of these individuals were actually dinosaurs, know as the 1337asaurous. Many people don't know but dinosaurs had actually adapted interstellar missile capabilities, and when the dinosaur ending meteor was detected, instead of blowing it up, the 1337asauri intimidated the other dinosaurs into just standing there and taking it, by saying things like, "Meteor not hurt us, do you even lift Tyrannosaurus bro with your tiny arms?" More groups of this sect have popped up randomly through history when they were least needed, one of the more known cases are the few that escaped Egypt with Moses, instead of letting Moses lead, they convinced the people they knew the way, hence the 40 years they spent wandering the desert. Other times they have come up in history have been the Spanish Inquisition, the Salem Witch trials, they were in charge of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, one was even captaining the Exxon Valdez. More recently they have been known as Commies, hippies, hipsters, John Cusack, and now elitists.

    THIS.
I would also like to throw these definitions out there: http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Essay:G...Genre_snobbery
    http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-an-elitist.htm

I personally think "elitist" is an insult that evolved from geek elitism/geek snobbery. it's basically overzealous people with specific hobbies thinking they can tell others how to live their lives. as said before, an elite/guru gamer doesn't necessarily have to be an elitist, people do have a choice who to play with/against, whatever, just don't be an a$s about it. there's always a diplomatic way to impose your standards.
