What is an 'Elitist'

Elitist in a video game = Loser in real-life who needs video-game accomplishments to feel superior to others since he/she has major inferiority complex in real-life due to lack of success/self-esteem/etc.

Perhaps this definition is a bit generalized but I would bet good money it applies to 90% of the "elitists" in this game. Anyone who posts stuff like "don't embarrass yourself" or "I'll kick scrubs..." etc. in their PF posts probably has faced embarrassment and/or rejection in real-life and are looking for ways to compensate via their "status" in a video game.

I've seen the word thrown around too many times and different people give different views. So I wanted to know what do you guys view as an elitist?

99% of this forum and 99% of the 99% thinking that they are the top 1% only to realise they are delusional.

Also 99% of people watching live letters and commenting on the side box. Generally, most of those who hang around official spots.

Many people here don't know what an Elitist is it seems...

Elitist doesn't mean they are ahead of everyone else, it means they are ahead of everyone else and they look down on everyone else that isn't that far. They are a-holes....

Had one on my server who had Allagan weapon some time back, and he kept mentioning he had beaten Turn 5, then called everyone retards if they did a slight mistake or didn't do very well on his parser....

A-holes with a lot of time is another word for Elitists.

If you have progressed a long way, but are still kind to other less progressed people, then you are not an elitist...

It's funny reading through this thread. Lots of people think they are Elitists, but they're just assholes. True Elitists, don't really tell people they're wrong, and this is because they realize that the person is too stupid to be taught how to do it right. That person will just live out the rest of there pathetic peasant lives doing it wrong. You know what though, that's fine. Have you fun and enjoy your life. Just stay away from me.

I think people confuse elitist with someone expecting simple reading comprehension. When I put up a PF for Leviathan or Moogle Farm with the statement must have cleared before don't call me an elitist because I removed you from party after you got your achievement. You lied, therefore you're gone and not welcome in my party.

Also, I'm not an elitist when you go for a nice swim multiple times. Mirror farming is horrid, I want the fight to go as quickly as possible. While the water in Leviathan is nice and refreshing it doesn't speed up the kills in what is already a long fight.

Being good is not being an elitist. Giving advice to others to improve is not being an elitist.
The elitist may be good but they want you to bow down to the king (ie them) whenever you cross path.
They feel that they are always right and there is only one way to do things (theirs).
If you happen to get into their party you are going to be flamed if you are not the perfect little soldier for his little army.
If he happens to get into yours, he is expecting all the party to follow his lead and will rage quit if not.
He could be a natural born leader if he had any social skills.

The lesson here: Don't be an exclusionary jerk when setting up PF groups. I couldn't blame that player in your first hypothetical for saying nothing. He/She likely knew that fight inside out but couldn't clear it through no fault of his/her own.
