Healers and Fates - Working as intended?

Now, I know that this is how it works for healers as they really do not have any way of dealing excessive damage in fates to gain a gold ranking.

However, my question is concerning healing and level sync.

A FC mate was talking in chat the other day saying that he was taking his wife's character around doing the current Atma fate grind that everyone is doing. However, he wasn't doing the level sync since he already had the Atma for that area and was just helping out.

However, he was still able to get gold rating in the fates even though he wasn't syncing his level down with the level of the fate...is this intended? To me, it sounds unbalanced given the fact that you could have, for example, an ilvl 90 healer healing lower levels. True, the chance of dying in a low level fate is low in the first place but it seems unfair that everyone else has to sync while a healer doesn't.

AFAIK you can't get a fate reward unless you synch. Yes you can heal players participating in a fate without synching yourself, but you can't win anything from it.

Fates do suck as a healer though due to the limited damage potential and SE's oversight that healing enmity doesn't contribute unless you deal damage as well. This is especially true for WHM since CNJ is a "healing" base class (while ACN is a DPS base class for SCH) so WHM will naturally have the most difficulty of all the current jobs.

I admit I don't recall him mentioning whether he was getting the reward for participating or not but he was getting a gold rating. I don't have any healing classes to test.

As for the rating itself, I was helping a lone monk trying to do that FATE near the falls in upper LA noscea (giant moth thing). I already had my Atma for that region so I didn't bother syncing since I could heal him with my full set of skills. After the fate was complete the announcement popped up on my screen (which always does if you happen to be near a fate that ends) but I got no reward. Now I have seen healers synching, doing enough damage to pretty much guarantee a medal, and then unsych to either leave the fate or help with stronger heals. Same principle as people leaving mid-fate while atma farming to maximize the number of fates they do. You can still get the award regardless if you participate all the way to the end (which I think needs to be changed personally).

I have also snagged gold without level syncing. I found this be accident one day when I stopped to heal some low level players struggling with a Fate. It was a nice reward for helping but the thank you in chat was better. I don't see this being abused easily as most of the time when I do this I get bronze. It takes a far bit of healing to get an unsynced gold reward.

Hmm that's curious then. When you got the gold rating, were there still seals/exp/etc. next to it in that little pop-up? If so, did you actually receive them?

You're getting the gold rating because you're building enmity by curing. As long as you build enmity, you gain credit. There's some off cases like Odin for example, but there's a sheer number of players there and it's likely your enmity is being brushed away by somebody who's generated more enmity then you have, that or a bug with Odin/Behe

Getting gold ranking from healing in a fate that you are not synced into is actually possible I've done is on several occasions when there was just a few people doing a low fate and I just healed them. Sync only applies to actually interacting with the fate mobs and NPCs. You can't heal the NPC unless your synced but you can heal players synced or not. Is it a bug? Only the devs can say. But it does work, try it out before the devs have a hotfix for it.

I've seen people throw regen on people participating, then perma tanking the mob from the hate that comes with 5-600HP regen ticks.

Pretty sure it's not a bug and is working as intended. It was discussed a long time ago during the Beta phases that Yoshi wanted people to be able to assist fellow players and even FC/LS members by side line healing when not actively involved in the fates themselves. It's sort of a power leveling method, but it's different in that instead of the 1.0 power leveling where you could simply engage a mass amount of mobs, disengage from party then slaughter them, giving all the low level players the full exp since they were part of the party originally when the mobs were claimed. Now, the player who is in the FATE has to actually participate and complete it to get the highest possible rating, while friends or nice healers on the outside can assist if needed.

I personally enjoy going through Coethras on my WHM to do just that, heal the main tank while he's fighting a NM, or spamming cure on a group of mobs so they target me, allowing the low level players to kill indiscriminately without fear of being killed.

It also helps if someone dies you can raise them rather than make them walk back and possibly miss the fate's end.
