    Materia Melding Horror Stories

For the past 2 days I have been attempting to force a CP+3 into my wife's HQ coral earring. I have "successfully" failed at a 19% chance 29 times in a row at this point. The odds of this happening is 0.22% (0.81 to the 29th power). Looking for some other materia melding horror streaks to make me feel a little less like the least lucky mancat in Eorzia.

Update: 1/34; it became a matter of principle. Odds of failing 33 times in a row, 0.0955%. Finally succeeding on the 34th try, Priceless.

I spent over 400K gil on failed overmelds when initially getting my DoH shared items done. I did learn that the percentage goes up for each stage of overmeld as the materia level goes down. Basically, this means that it may be better to try a CP+2 and then a CP+1 instead of just a CP+3.

I love the official forums, they tell you to use the search for thread about what you wanted to talk but when you use it they judge for necro a thread.

1.0 horror stories... if you thought Atma farming was bad, going for the RELIC in 1.0 was far more RNG intensive AND expensive as all hell then this is now. You needed a double melded precursor weapon that was a pain in the ass to craft, usually cost about 10m each, and if you failed to double meld (less then 33% chance Iirc) YOU LOST EVERYTHING

Aside from that: Trying to meld the 5th meld into my weaver body, Craftsmanship tier 2 Materia. Been trying to go from paycheck to paycheck melding this. I sell one thing over 15k, I buy a materia, I fail the 13% chance, I wait for something else to sell and repeat

I don't mind the gil as much as I mind the time... and it's a pain on ps3. I wish there was a button that let you "quick meld" a set number of materia... into a given slot so it would just try upto 99 times.

It took me 164 attempts to meld the final single CP onto my Militia Wristlets, as I chose to do Control IV > Craftsmanship 2 > CP 3 > CP 2 > CP 1 due to the pricing on my server of materia at the time. The odds were 12% each time. Fortunately each materia cost between 50 and 300 gil.

That's exaxtly why I will never be able to do 2 star and 3 star recipies. I am on it since shortly after release and I have all DOH in HQ gear, each one has 2-4 Materia inserted but I still lack at least 10 points of craftmanship and 20-25 points of Control for each of my chars. Just because the spirit bonding favours the other two kind of DOH materia type and the success rate itself is very low. 22-11% isn't that much when overmelding and binding an item for several hours just to see it turns out to be another HP materia or destroying it with a failed insert attempt in a few seconds is somehow frustrating.

Dunno how many HP materia I got after spirit bonding, lost count. I refuse to spend all the GIL I earn for Control materia because I am savy and I like to equip myself with what I produce instead of playing the market board game. The system is made so that you either need a lot of luck or must be willing to spend millions or you wait forever. By the time I can reliably make 2 star HQ crafts, 4 star recipies will be out. With each upgrade I fall more behind and at some stage I will loose interest in them completely and only use them to help mates when they level a new char.

For this I always move the specific item I want to meld from armory to inventory and keep all the materia away (in FC chest or at retainers) and retrieve only the (stock of) the one I need to overmeld - this speeds up the process dramatically as you don't need to scroll up and down like idiot after each failed overmeld attempt and look up for the correct item and materias.

Fact is materia and crafting are becoming more and more obsolete...unless top gear gets meld slots both are destined to fail

My solution is have a item that allows crafters to place a materia slot on items, all of a sudden crafters and materia have a place in endgame AND
    Gear won't feel so generic
