    Request: Item Repair

Please change item repair such that it can be done without changing classes. There is very little value right now in "self-repair" due to the time necessary to switch classes, then go to the armoury inventory, find the item in question, and repair.

The mechanism when you click repair on an item should simply check "Do you have a level X armorsmith? yes? then repair.

This could also come in handy (even in a minor way) to repair gear while in an instance. I don't see why this can't be done. Right now, we can't because the game mechanics forbid job switching while in an instance. I get that and that makes sense. But, allow for item repair without changing to the appropriate class.

    Re-establish value to repair.

I couldn't agree more, I never repair my own gear, it's just too much hastle compared to getting an NPC to do it. It would probably be better if gear cost 4 times as much to repair but lasted 4 times as long, that way it would at least feel like I was saving a decent chunk of money and I wouldn't have to mess about as often.

There's also the issue that, in order to repair, you need Dark Matter, and because there's five different grades of Dark Matter you need to to sacrifice five inventory slots to carry the stuff around with you for repairs. The fact that Dark Matter itself costs gil means that the amount you save by repairing your own gear is even smaller than you'd think.

The combination of all these - hassle on changing to a new job, lost inventory slots, and the fact that only a tiny amount of gil is actually saved - is why I gave up on the repair system a long time ago. It's just not worth it - and this is coming from someone who's ridiculously stingy in most other regards.

yeah the whole item repair system is a poorly designed relic from 1.0 I think.

Please, reinstate our ability to repair the gear of other people!!!!! Why that function ever ceased to be is beyond me.

    In a perfect world:
    • You would not need to switch classes to repair gear. You would just be able to repair based on any DoH classes you've leveled up.
    • Others could "request repair" in the same way that "request meld" works
    • Grade 1-5 dark matter was removed and replaced with just "Dark Matter" (no grades). Lvl 1-10 gear would require 1 dark matter to repair, 11-20 would require 2 dark matter, 21-30 requires 3, etc. Dark matter would stack up to 999.
    • You could perform partial repairs on higher level gear. If grade 1-5 dark matter was removed and replaced with just "dark matter", then lvl 50 gear with 80% durability or higher would only require 1 dark matter, 60% or higher would require 2, etc.

That's EXACTLY what I was suggesting several times here and would like to see implemented.

And to all why say it's not saving any (substantial) amount of gil doing self repairs - it IS up to 3 - 4 times cheaper than via NPC so it definitely is worth it and once you'll get into habit of using it (and put the repair icon to your hotbar) it's become fairly easy and more fleaxilble as you can repair anywhere outside without looking for NPC - indeed apart of dungeons which is I believe intentional design anyway.

I was doing my own repairs for a while. I'd get the dark matter for "free" since there wasn't anything else to use company seals on. But it was tedious. Took me longer to find 1 piece of gear I want to repair in my inventory (after swapping to the appropriate class) than it does to find a repair vendor. They're everywhere.

As a tank, with the increased roulette rewards, repair is so minimal a cost now I don't even bother. Self repair is just a hassle with all the menu swapping and the fact that it's 100% cost no matter how much you repair. It's simply not worth it to me in terms of time vs money saved. I wish this process was streamlined greatly.

Yeah - I was using the GC seals too but now they go towards ventures so that's dryed up for now. I aggree that repairs are cumbersome hence my mention of using the repair action rather than scavenging through the whole armory and inventory everytime (especially since the IDIOTIC update when they started to almost fully grey out all the gear items you're unable to equip on the current class - what a stupid change!) - it's much easier to repair this way. For my WHM (main job) I need to change only twice (to WVR and GSM) most of the time / gear, sometimes to ALC for the main weapon so it's not that difficult and most of the other classes / jobs usually requires only two main DoL to perform majority of the repairs as well. It's just force of habit really.

    Warrior

    BSM - Axe
    ARM - Head/Body/Gloves
    LTW - Belt/Boots
    WVR - Pants
    GSM/LTW - Jewelry

and that's in addition to finding the stupid gear on the "repair" screen (I often have lots of broken gear since I have many classes at various levels of use/progression).

The real benefit to being able to repair without switching classes is that I could just go to the "equipped" tab on the class in question and have all of the gear that I want to repair right there.
