Thinking about it, if they were to change it I would hope they keep the previous names on the list and just note it as "Current Team". Think about it, if you've read the interview, Yoshida has basically said he's only been getting 2 hours of sleep during this ordeal of trying to get the game into shape.
Now think about it, how many sleepless nights and long hours do you think Hiromichi Tanaka had to put into getting the game out for the deadline which when you think about it even after all their efforts they just weren't able to pull it off and hoped for the best.
With the bad start and basically being shunned by the MMO community I wouldn't be surprised if the overall change was because of the fatigue they were all facing, they are older so a younger team would do better to work and do the things they just don't have the stamina for anymore.
I think we should just remember that Tanaka and his older group had been working on this game for years making the beautiful scenery and conceptualizing unique concepts that are now being taken out of the game aka stamina system. I think had Tanaka and his group been given the time to actually work on this game and it wasn't rushed out to compete with WoW"s expansion, Rift's release and such, SE would've saved themselves a lot of money.
Sadly with the ordeal in mind they just became scapegoats for a problem that was caused by the ones who wanted to rush this game out the door and rely on it's FF title to save it. Heck if anything Tanaka prolly got the boot on this project cause he was very determined not to charge players for a game he wasn't happy with. With that in mind the president prolly tried to work them harder and while he tried he just couldn't continue the long hours, he was basically defeated.
So since the pres wants to try and get this game into shape as into subscription fee as soon as possible the best idea would be to put a new team full of energy to start working on the game so they can at least get things out faster rather then relying on a worn down team that's defeated by a failed release.
