    I only ever gather shards for the FC. But I get plenty of shards from treasure hunts and such. Enough infact that I can dump 500 to FC and 500 to a friend as needed and still have plenty for my own needs of slowly leveling up.

    I did try gathering shards once though... 2000 of them... My brain still hurts from that.

    If there was a class to craft shards, they would need to make a whole new crafting class just for that, and even then they'd still need to have a material to craft that.

    I think its fine the way it is, unless you grind for some reason (logs, achievements?) you only need a couple of shards. Just take a few minutes and you have enough shards/crystals for a couple of crafts. Or you can have 2 gathering retainers and let them gather the shards/crystals for you ^^

    try making x potions of str/int etc. 15 shards for a set of 3. adds up quick, especially if you are progressing on new coil turns. potions are consumable, moreso the poisoning potions bc u can pop 5 of them per fight potentially. they could just have alchemist craft shards, apparently this was a thing in ffxi. i don't mind my retainer gathering 5 crystals at a time, but shards, they should at least be able to grab 15 at a time. or let us gather 3-5 per hit, so you get 15-25 per node. the expensive items use crystals and clusters, so idont see the big deal. some foods and potions require shards, but if its 15 shards per craft, you burn through them pretty quick.

    This was a thing in FFXIV, too. Alchemists turned fish into shards, or something.

    I'm pretty sure they broke down Cluster into Crystals into Shards.

    I have an idea to restore 1.0 crystal conversion,
    yet not breaking economy and give RMT/bot a profit:

    1. Only available as breakdown from cluster
    2. Requires additional materials for the breakdown, I suggest using elemental resist materia + grade 4 carbonized matter
    3. Each crafting class except ALC & CUL is capable of breaking down 1 type of element only
    4. Maybe a new material from unspoiled node which a ALC can craft something with it for the breakdown recipe

    Reasons:
    1. Upgrading crystal destroy a DoL's role to supply them
    2. Materia and Unspoiled materials are less likely to be mass produced even with bots farming, it's used to keep the difference between human DoLs' and bot DoLs' production rate smaller
    3. DoLs still keep their role to supply shards to crafters, the 1 element per class is again to make things more complex to let RMT has direct influence on the market. It also establish a trade network between crafters.
    4. Make things more complex once again

    Impacts:
    RMT/bot to market - They need to seperate their bot teams for different items, they cant really mass produce as easily by using bot to a typical node. And there's the barrier of using materia.

    DoL to market - Still providing their stuff to crafters, a bit less junk items from their gathering list.

    Non crafters - Less junk materia, more intention to spiritbond stuff

    just realized your gatherers can get you 30 shards at a time lol. I don't know if this is based on level or gear, I didn't think he could do it from the beginning. I also don't have my botanist fully geared, I forgot to reequip him, but even 30 shards a venture isn't too bad. That can add up quick. Problem pretty much solved for me!

    What stats/level do our Miner/BTN retainers need to be to bring back 30 shards per venture? I have 4 of them (lv 42 ish) so being able to net 120 shards every 50min would be lovely

    I know my level 40 Miner with Gathering 230/Perception 225 can get 30 shards after 40 minutes for 1 venture, but I know she reached 30 shards per venture early on and 40 minutes per venture sometime in her 20s. She can also get 30 Crystals in 50 minutes currently.

    Check the Mining/Harvesting level 1-5 ventures and make sure you have checked that shard off in your gathering log.

    in half 50 gear my botanist still gets 30 shards per 40 min. when i had full 50 gear that my forager botanist wears, i could get 30 crystals for 40 min. in the half 50 gear, it only got 15. so if you want crystals, give your retainer some really good gear. shard numbers stay the same even with less gear.

    so glad our retainers can do this mindless activity for us lol
