Unfortunately, SE/Yoshida disagrees that THF would be redundant from a design perspective. Not only does the new storyline hint at it coming in, Yoshida even said that THF was one of the first new jobs he wanted to bring in, along with things jobs like Red Mage, Blue Mage and Samurai.

RE: Archer -> Musketeer; it's unlikely that will be case, even if you don't think so and are basing this on your own thoughts of what should be (all subjective) and not what is likely/speculative (a mix of subjective and objective). Archer will likely go into Ranger, which would be a pure DPS branch from Archer, and Bard will continue to become more and more support/dps hybrid as the level cap increases. Now, I'd be quite happy seeing Ranger be a pet type class, and that would work quite well.

That, or further the field/trap based abilities like Flaming Arrow.
Musketeer, however, is a class, and can be seen as such because it has it's own guild in the Coral Tower (which is now also home to the Marauders).

How weapons will come into things, I have no idea. But I'd expect a gunblade type class/job to come out of Garlemald, as part of an expansion that goes into the heart of the Empire. The technology of a gun/weapon hybrid seems very much theirs.

    My class list:

Shaman > Beast Master / Blue Mage (Hybrid Caster/Melee DD that uses primal mysticism to acquire beast skills and leads a path to either master the beasts of Eorzea, or embody them.)

Inquisitor > Red Mage / Dark Knight (Hybrid DD, possibly tank Dark Knight, a magical warrior that serves in Ishgard who walks a fine line of his inquest against the dark houses that threaten Ishgard, or giving in to the void and wielding it's power)

Musketeer > Corsair / Engineer ( Modeled after Setzer and Edgar from FFVI )

    Existing Classes

    CNJ
    Geomancer

    THM
    Time Mage

    GLD
Mystic Knight or Dark Knight (Single blade or dual wield)

    ARC
    Ranger

    MRD
Berserker or Viking, or alternate weapon Greatsword Dark Knight

    PGL
    Dancer, Thief or Ninja

Soldier with a spear ? Even with disclaimer #1, I can't agree. I love their little swords and their rock throws

Right here's mine judging from what we've already seen in 1.0 and 2.2 through speculation.

    Assassin
Ninja - Damage dealer using critical hits and backstabs to inflict damage with some spell-like abilities.
Thief - Damage dealer with quick agility who can shift enmity around and cause more damage working with party members (FFXI example).

    Marauder
    Warrior - tanky tanktank
Beastmaster - Damage dealer who fights alongside beasts to deal damage. These pets are tamed in the open-world and then summoned later into battle. The role of the "pet" during a fight depends on the type of beast tamed. The pet's moveset can be based off the moveset that the monster originally had when fighting it normally. [In case you're wondering, Beastmaster was alluded to back in 1.0. There exists a group of women in Ishgard who have the ability to tame wild beasts.]

Bring on Beastmaster i think it was one of the best jobs in FFXI.

I've got an idea for new jobs people can play. It's called a "Tank" type class, maybe 2 of them. One can be "Paladin", a sword and board, enmity generating, high mitigation job. Another one I call "Warrior", an axe wielding MRD class that is awesome "tanking" multiple adds at a time, high DPS and high HP. I bet DF que-up times would dramatically decrease if these jobs were leveled.

    Please look forward to it.

Positive thing... or? Haha. Well, between Katana & multiple spellswords you'd be set.

Haha yes it's a positive. I was a bit disappointed when there was no sword DPS class. I think the game would have benefited more if you could make any class play any role you want. Like sword being a dps, spear being a tank and so on. I think the classes are quite limited, maybe it's just me.

Huh, guess I was mistaken when I thought you would be willing to let other people express their opinions. Oh well.

Also, why I dislike Musketeer coming from Archer but don't mind Ninja from Pugilist: I must've missed the bit where you said that if you were in charge of class/job design you'd be giving extra weapon types to each class and job. I was going off the idea that Musketeers have nothing to do with Bows, but it's perfectly reasonable to believe that a Ninja could have extensive training in unarmed combat.

Anyway, guess I'll be avoiding this topic from now on...
