Ladies and Gentleman:
In light of the major content overview brought to us by the noble Naoki Yoshida in his twelfth letter, I have been trying to conjure a possible solution to one of the very few, but ultimately crucial portions left out in the Guild Leve reform. While it is probably not as common to experience this game-breaking situation using a wired connection, individuals using a wireless or broadband based connection are expected to be a victim of this unpleasant circumstance. Even with my knowledge of computers, I cannot overcome the stress of maintaining a stable stream of wireless transfer during one of the numerous rain storms bound to occur in Florida. On estimate, I have had over a hundred or odd so guild leves fail due to disconnection, power outage, Vista/ Windows 7 Authentication Required and Alt-Tab game closures. I am, quite frankly, tired of this hindrance, considering I could easily be Rank 50 by now if this was not an issue.
The overall issue with the disconnection crisis is the availability of the leve following the return of the player once they have logged back into the server.
As we all know, the leve is counted as a failure on the part of the player. While it would be pleasant to restart the leve (or log back in to complete the remainder of the leve), we all know both options could be manipulated to yield more skill points. To avoid the possible exploitation of an automatic replacement of the leve, a calculation marker would be required. Similar to the same technique used to harbor the progress of normal quests, the calculator will provide the player with the ability to kill a monster, disconnect, and return to be given their progress back. What would be different, or possibly erased?
The main idea is to create a system where a person could activate a quest, complete what they can before a disconnection, then return to the camp to reactivate the same leve. They would keep their progress, but they could finish the leve as they would normally.
Another idea, which would destroy the idea behind timing the leve, would be to treat the Guild Leves as if they were Local Leves. Allow the leve to be picked up, take the character to the proper camp radius, and begin the bloodbath. This would require a massive upgrade to the server to allow the further integration of monster fading for each individual player, but is a possibility.
The final possibility would be to allow the camps to become the new Guild Leve stations, meaning a person could pick up a leve from the camp and complete the leve (only if the player manages to remain in the area of the camp they accepted the quest.) This would once again require the leves to no longer contain a time limit, but the idea behind a calculation monitor (record progress in the process of a disconnection) would also need to be used.
The final suggestion would be my personal favorite due to the possibilities it could bare in regard to expanding the function of a camp. Certain special quests could be offered on a random date, which could suspend the travel of merchants. The merchants could provide unique (to regular stores) materials or even provide new quest possibilities such as item pick up (as seen in the Faction of the Horn leves) and even joint NPC/Player caravan protection. Bazaars (such as the Quarrymill and The Golden Bazaar) could also hold fort based defensive battles. While the last paragraph was more content oriented than disconnection protection, the idea is a future possibility if the disconnection option #3 is used.
The ultimate goal of this rant, if you wish to call it so, is the game-breaking feeling brought on from the inability to gain gil and skill points from the leves. I hope you locate at least some value from reading this and can find a possible solution to the issue. Keep up the good work Team Eorzea.
