    The problem is each uses the exact same ability regardless of the class/Job ('Summon'/'Summon II') - it's not like FFXI where each summon was it's own specific spell, hence SE would have to change it considerably and actually make each summon an individual spell rather than all using the same ability slot. Of course they might consider doing this when Ramuh, Leviathan and Shiva egis are added later on, but for the present time at least I don't see SE changing this.

    A 'carbuncle' is a gemstone (specifically a ruby, hence the ruby on his forehead) - thus rock on rock isn't going to do much.

    Well it was the same summon up until you added the soul gem to become smn/sch. If one wishes to use carby as smn it would be the same as it was prior to the soul stone being added. However, if one is sch using carby, the carby would get the healing fairy skills rather than the fighting ones.
